Spoke to ex colleagues today and those who got a low mark and failed received emails telling them they had failed and would not be getting any further; however I scored 60% (hated the test and don't think I was focused enough due to circumstances) and I have not had a failure email.

It tells me they are processing my application so does this mean those who did not receive a failure email passed the test?

I got a high score on the planning etc areas.

If you score under a certain % it is an outright fail (it was way below 60%). All those above that will not necessarily proceed to the next stage as as that will depend on what the % pass mark is ultimately set at.

Thoughtless for trying to share information? I can see no real benefit in people not mentioning high scores, it doesn't make it any easier for those who may not have scored so well.

They are not thoughtless for sharing information, but thoughtless for expressing disappointment for achieving obviously good scores when there are people on this thread who have scored significantly lower and are genuinely upset at having done so.

Can anyone point out an official source that says that there were around 50,000 applicants?_pale_

I haven't read the whole thread but assume people were told this figure when ringing the recruitment line. There were definitely at least 50,000 - that figure may have risen to almost 60,000 by the time the closing date ended/retests were completed

But is that the total number of applicants or applications? I put in 3 applications as I am located close to 3 geographical areas and I know from reading this thread several others on here have made more than one application. Even if I get three interviews and possibly three job offers (wouldn't that be nice) I would only be able to take one. So there may have been 60,000 applcations but only 40,000 - 45,000 applicants - which I will admit is still a lot and I'm guessing the on-line test will (unfortunately for some) have a higher impact than may have origionally been the plan of the DWP!!

I think too many people are getting to bothered about test marking, as obviously open to abuse.

I think more important is peoples compancies and previous experience that would suit. Job centre role.

I think even competencies are subjective, somewhere earlier in this thread someone mentioned someone else doing someones competencies.... Only previous experience and an interview is truly going to be the most likely way to know if someone is suitable or not, with perhaps a paper numeracy and literacy test at interview.
    Just my opinion.;)

There was no place in the application for "personal statement" or description of previous jobs though.

Just basic job roles/employer (previous) and competencies then th test.

    So...

As has been mentioned previously its all pure speculation about the process in this thread. Each district will have different criteria, say they have 100 vacancies but 4000 people applied, they only require say 600 people to go forward to interview then lets just say the online test scores were high, so the pass marks set at 80% just to get the 600 going forward. Now in a differing area they only need 50, and only 350 people to go forward, the online test pass may be alot lower, so those with a percentile of 65% and above move forward.

All these high scores that are posted are only relative to the area you applied to.
  • If it helps, the man in the Job Centre told me there were 44,000 APPLICANTS and I think around 30% failed straight off the bat (don't quote me on that though).
