All these high scores that are posted are only relative to the area you applied to.

I'm doubtful if that is correct, I have applied in 5 regions and my percentile figure is exactly the same in all of them, which to me suggests that the figure is against the entire body of applicants.

Yes, but your scores will only compare against people in each of the districts you applied in to select who moves to competency sift. Why would they compare your score to an area you havent even applied to.

Is this the way all recruitment is going these days by use of competency statements and screening tests ?
or is it specific to the public service sectors ?

Aren't they interested in academic qualifications and previous working experience anymore ?
  • Cn2004- FTE is the hours you work for instance if you work full time you are 1 full time equivalent, I work 32 hours and I am 0.83 fte hope this helps :}

Spoke to someone at the Job Centre today. He told me that the majority of vacancies were for internal staff and they were looking to recruit some fresh faces from various walks of life so if you've not limited your competencies to past work experience, that's good news.

Traditionally JCP employees going for promotion in external exercises don't fare as well as external applicants.

A number of reasons for this, i.e its harder to make a competency sound good if your interviewer knows what you would have been required to do ;). Another reason is they don't like to "promote" in this fashion as they are not guaranteed to get the staffs original position filled as most of the allotment for staff within a district will be decided in advance of the advertisement. Another key point is the calibur of staff will generally be better educated, be better critical thinkers and have a enthusiasm to aspire up the career ladder (not realising how hard this is) and as a result work harder and more efficently. They also aren't as backward thinking and their training and knowledge of the guidance will be to a higher standard than a lot of the existing staff.

Which is why the PCS union opposes the external recruitment process.

In the public sector yes as it means they can access a person's ability through quantitative as opposed to qualitative means.

Competency based interviews can be a good gauge of an employee's ability without giving an advantage to people with experience in a particular field.

Yes, I agree. People should be delighted at such a result. I don't know why anyone would be 'disappointed' with this score unless it's false modesty.

Nail. Hit on head there Goldi :D

Not trying to be a D***head, but I am very skeptical of people who have scored 90%+, and would think that DWP are smarter than just taking on the top 10% of people to a interview.

The test is very open for abuse, I won't advertise how but it's simple, I can gurantee myself 90%+ if i really wanted to, taking the moral high ground and for testing myself. I took the test with no prior experience or revision and scored 70%+

I have read past threads where people who scored 70-90% did well in job interviews and got accept where some who claim some ridiculous score fail miserable for interview stages where they didnt hit the 25 pass mark. Even more skeptical, if you're smart enough to score so high you should really ace the interview and not crumble below pass rates.

People here saying or thinking that only the top 10% scorers will go through is quite interesting, and it would prove that DWP is really THAT stupid.

Yup, registering a fake application, taking a screenshot of every question... all before going for the test under real name and submitting it....

What a stupid idea with this online testing from home.

And then surprise surprise, someone selected for an interview does not speak English.... LOL
