Really hard then to use same scenario as you end up talking about something not quite relevant. "leading - give an example of when you lead and had to make someone not feel left out or uncomfortable" = lots of waffle from me :-(
Im sure you have done better than you think0 -
Hi
Thanx for all your replys, but can any give me a few ideas for that competency.
With regards to your example... If you used the S.T.A.R technique to help you pick something specific, it should be easier.
Situation - what was the situation, how many people were involved.
Task - what did you have to do - actual task in hand
Action - How did you do it, what did YOU specifically do - dont just say motivate, explain how you motivated - eg bought sweets etc etc
Result - what happened because of what you did? Did your task in hand get accomplished? What happened? Did you receive thanks, did someone say thank you, was a new system in place etc etc
I have tried to briefly explain in your example....
S role as security officer in local job centre, team leader for 6 people
T Monitor Performance of other guards and motivate
A I observe them (how do you observe them) I compare them to …(how do you measure improvement). I give feedback (how do you do this – 1 to 1/ group feedback. Is it telling them where they went wrong/how they can improve? Or is it just to tell them what happened.
R Results – what were they? Answer your task - Staff morale was happier and performance had boosted, got thanks from senior managers etc etc…..
Hope this helps? Theres no point in giving you my example or other peoples examples, because you cant answer questions or explain someone else examples properly. Investigate your own example. It will benefit you more - TRUST ME0 -

Leading
!
My role as a security officer is based in a local jobcentre where I act as Team Leader for six other officers, guiding them in their daily duties and ensuring they operate at full capacity.
As a team leader my first role is to demonstrate certain qualities such as integrity, professionalism, clear communication skills that the other officers can then use as examples to follow. Additionally I am required to motivate and inspire my staff who can then be better placed to deal customers from such a varied background.
My role entails monitoring the performance of the other guards. I do this by observing them in their roles since I am usually in close proximity when they are discharging their duties. I then compare this to our performance indicators and targets to make sure these are being achieved.
I conduct performance reviews with my staff to give feedback which they can then incorporate into their daily roles in order to improve. This also gives me an opportunity to articulate to them any changes in our duties or development opportunities that will make us more conducive to success in our jobs0 -
Hi All.

I don't mean to sound rude, but a large number of people have deconstructed your original example and given you pointers on what to do. You appear to be asking people to do it for you...
If you are successful in the application, you will be working at junior manager level, ie, expected to think on your feet, find out things for yourself, and act on what you find, using your discretion... if you cannot take on board what assistance people have already given you.. so you need to do that for your interview aswell.
Read what people have said: think about it, and put something together.0 -

You really should not have to make stuff up you know... only you know what you've done and haven' done. The interviewers will be able to spot a dodgy example methinks...:)In deep...0 -
Hi all.
Any change to my leading compentency are more then welcome.
Thank u0 -
I've just got back from my interview and I really am not sure how it went. I too feel as though I waffled on, especially with the first 2 questions as I was so nervous... one question completely stumped me and I was silent for what seemed like and age, but probably wasn't really. I got there in the end but feel as though I didn't really answer what they asked but hey ho we will see...
Good luck to everyone that is still to be interviewed...0 -

The questions asked were more in relation to the smaller sub headings under the competencies and I was struggling to make my original examples fit. They did ask leading questions but I still felt they were looking for more. They did write everything down but despite doing well on the sift and assessment I feel I have let myself down.
Sorry you don't feel you've done very well, but you've probably done better than you think.
I'm back from mine too and at first I thought I'd done OK, then I thought I'd done really well and now I think I've done really badly!!!
I had the opposite really, I was asked one question after finishing my first competency which I answered but there were no more questions asked for the remaining ones - so I don't know if I answered everything or if it was too much off the mark to bother!
Plus, like you said they asked specific points from below the heading, which as soon as she said it, I knew I could answer in my full speech, which I went ahead and gave. But looking back, I think I should have clarified it at the end, just so they knew I was aware of the question they'd asked!
But.....we've done what we can and our opinion of how we did will probably change tenfold before we get the feedback. Don't know about you but I'm going to have a drink or two tonight and try to forget about it for the time being
Well done anyways!0
