Building capability and managing people and performance are very similar, only as I understand it: capability is more about the business side of things, and managing people is about the people side.

I think, with a bit of tweaking, that would clearly demonstrate how through a series of measures you developed workforce more motivated and capable of meeting assigned targets... so I don't know what they're on about, to be honest.

My 'capability' example was about retraining someone so they became a more productive member of the workforce. Which is basically what your saying that you did, and no one has mentioned there being anything wrong with it... scored a 7. So I don't really know what to say about that mate :(

As a performance manager, I would say building capability includes things such as 1-2-1's, coaching, personal development planning of your staff whilst building your own capability and planning your development as a manager.

As for managing performance its more on day to day management and achieving results and when people underperformed taking the relevant actions (such as building capability or possibly dismissal if remedial actions failed).

Ah, well that would explain it then: my example was very performance coaching based, and my management example was about an unruly team member. Explains why the lack of 'how' in vwgirl's example meant it fitted a different competency :)

    Thankyou - very useful :)

Got my feedback I only got a 3 for 1 competency.
Strange how it passed sifts before.
Not happy about this recruitment process.
Too many inconsistencies with marking competencies in different areas.
Some managers have behaved inappropriately, sifting applications they helped with.
  • I applied under Greater Manchester and I haven't received any feedback yet....

Thought I'd give an update for others who may have applied for London districts.

I'm not sure if this applies to all of them but I have a friend who's made some enquiries internally for me.

Basically they will make a decision by the end of next week who is being called in for interview, I've been told they won't be sifting based on the competencies due to the sheer number and time constraints.

Instead it will be based on your test and the panel will have your competencies available during the interview but will also want additional examples.

Bear in districts have autonomy so it may vary with the others.

Thanks for the info! Thought there might be something going on since most other places have had some news with regards to competencies.

It seems they really underestimated the number of applications they'd get in the London area and they've been spending these past few weeks just figuring out how to sort through them!

If they are just going to use the test scores I wonder why its going to take a whole week more to hear about interviews?? SIGH.

I wouldn't worry about it, i'm the first letter of the alphabet and I've not had my scores back for the Northwest.
The sifting has been split between a few different offices so i'm afraid it's just a matter of when they get around to it.

I'm not on my own then.

mind you, seeing what people have written in the competancies, and comapring it to mine, not holding out much hope..........

Potentially "amusing" situations there for people that have "cheated" then! Oh to be a fly on the wall when the 99%er strolls in in his hoodie and jeans with his can of special brew :D
