DWP Recruiting Again - 2012

They have finished the sift, I asked one of the sifters on Monday and I know people who have had their results.
Also the pass mark has always been 36% therefore they are well within their right to sift down this low. (I would have preferred them not to as I got 97% without cheating but hey if thats the pass mark)
Of course they are "within their right" to do it, since they're the ones hiring. I'm just not convinced a statement which does not require proof of experience is more important than a standardized test to the point where you hit the pass mark to find interviewees.
If you design a test and the instructions aren't followed to the point where you're drilling down to pass levels then the test isn't a valid measure unless the purpose is to screen those who do from those who don't. Prior applicants and internals are better acquainted with the info externals are missing so that's not creating a level playing field. If I designed an experiment and got these results it would do me no service to say the problem lies with the participants rather than my test. I'm using an analogy because the tests are fine and I'm sure the folks who built them didn't expect the "must read" guidance to be accessible in the way it has been.
Anyway, might find out how I did today, good luck to those of us who are still waiting.0 -
Would anyone who has scored highly or knows about these things be willing to take a look at my competencies (via PM) and tell me where I've gone wrong? I did find the 'hidden link', work in DWP currently and honestly thought my competencies would be OK

These people will be senior who have moved up the ranks themselves...they know what they are looking for, lets not kid.
I know people who have had help from these senior figures and failed the competencies miserably.
The main reason I did all the research my self was so if I did fail I only had myself to blame.
These people that have moved up the ranks would have done so using a very different merit system as they would have been promoted some time ago.
And that is the main reason there is these inconsistencies in the marking of the competencies. Before their "1 day of training" some of the people sifting may not have read or wrote a competency before.
Hopefully with all this new blood coming into the JCP the unemployed will get the support they need as everyone knows what difficulties lie when applying for jobs and what recruiters are looking for.
This seem a little harsh and i'm not saying all, but there is certainly a number of advisors at JCP who have been in the job for numerous years and wouldn't now how to write an adequate CV nevermind give advice on applying for jobs or writing competencies.
I've seen these people just get up and go home leaving customers at their desks as they only work to x o'clock or refuse to do some minor job as it isn't in their job description.
In a way people at the top have realised this to a certain extent and the reason for the managerial questions in the application and the initial sifting for the 80+ percentile applicants is that they require people who going to and are willing to progress.0 -

AA-AO = Lv1 Competency
EO-HEO = Lv2 Competency
Lets not kid though, promotion can be incredibly difficult in the civil service unless you switch departments.
Most managers I came across in my time had been in the DWP a long time.0 -

I am (was) switching departments, there is zero chance of promotion where I am currently, I know this to be fact.
I just wish I had the 'it's all over' email now so I could put it to bed completely.0 -

I don't mind looking at them but if you haven't had your feed back yet I would wait and see what they say as it gives a description with your mark. So you may be worrying for nothing0 -
I have checked my Staffs/Shrops application - still no feedback...
Re: the massive difference in my sift scores - I had a look at the civil service website and managed to find the page where it lists all of the departments and each and every one has an email link to contact them [for any non-technical related query] APART from DWP [JCP]. They have a telephone number only. [0845...]
Does anybody know where I could get the contact email/postal address?0 -

The recruitment line might have that information, as they might have had to give it out before.
