Jeez, if all you internal candidates couldn't get it sussed what with line managers helping you and special training sessions in how to write competencies then what hope have us external applicants got who've never come across competency statements before and can hardly spell the word let alone decipher what it means !! lol
Something like...
"I was re-entering the Earth's atmosphere with my fellow astronauts in my clapped-out shuttle when, suddenly, Jim accidentally sat on the "vent everyone out into the ether" button. Coolly and calmly, and quick as a flash, I ordered Ground Control to remotely activate the force field, just as my lungs were starting to burst. As a result, everyone lived -- though on reflection, I could have been more strict with Jim over where he'd parked his rear."
That's got to be a 9.I jest. Something to do while waiting, eh...

What northerntake said was staff wernt given any help but were expected to signpost customers to a group which showed them how to write competancies
Well that's ok then !!!!!!
Out of interest who was giving the training in how to do it the right way - wonder how much actual difference it will make in the end-game given the marking inconsistencies already reported here.0 -

The ones who have probably done well are the ones who could be bothered to turn up rather than go to the pub0 -
There were links and links to links and pdf brochures to download but none of it would win a plain English award.
There should have been one clear link at the start of the section and a proper example of what was required.
The fact that they need to hold special training seminars on writing competency statements but still end up with poor results shows their failure to clearly communicate what they wanted.
Now that was well hidden, it's no wonder I didn't find it
I'm sorry, but you shouldn't be expected to click through three links (And away from the application!), and then browse halfway through a 'recruitment support pack' to find the competency information.
The application page itself contains a nice little link to the competency framework, and I'm gobsmacked they didn't think to include this there.
Usability for their site stinks. If they were offering people support seminars at the jobcenter, then TBQH they should have mailed this offer to people applying too.

You need to decipher and investigate the job post!
I have been mentioning the above problems for a while back in the thread. I don't have anything else to add, but I am not surprised reading through here, that a lot of people have turned up with the same problem.
It would have been great if they gave us a second chance to fill out the competency as I now have all the resources I need
What would have been great is the ability to edit your application and the competencies at least to the point where someone puts it on hold during the marking, I don't see why not as competency writing is not based on a time duration.0 -
They haven't finished the sift for the Black Country I haven't had mine yet
They have finished the sift, I asked one of the sifters on Monday and I know people who have had their results.
Also the pass mark has always been 36% therefore they are well within their right to sift down this low. (I would have preferred them not to as I got 97% without cheating but hey if thats the pass mark)0 -
One other thing, I dont mean to come across harsh but its not hard to find out what a competency statement is, just do a simple google search (I just typed in competency statement and got 12,900,000 results even you tube has video's on how to write them)
When I first applied for my position as an AO and for the last EO promotion I got, I had to attend a competency based interview and was given no guidance I had to find it all out for myself.
I have been job hunting for the past year and have done numerous competency based application forms for both public & private organisations and have never received any guidance on how to write them.0 -

Unless their manager has done sifting themselves in the past or performed interviews then they won't have too much of an advantage anyway.
In some cases it may hinder their chances.
