I hope you manage to go today with the full support of your wife, lean on her, make it you days task, go the extra mile, think of the future and what it could be like rather than the scary imminent today feelings you are going to have to go through to get to the good bits in the end, good luck:D0

Hope you manage to get there today OP, it's so important that you address these issues.
I am a fellow OCD sufferer, I used to be as bad as washing my hands many times during the day, In the end I had private therapy from home. But If I were to go out I would constantly wear gloves, as weird as it sounds but it helped me.
I am now a care worker, god many years ago there would of been no way.
I am 80% better with my OCD thanks to CBT and other types of therapies..
You will get there OP, takes time and patience and a positive attitude..
Good luck0 -
I too sympathise. I have issues with hospitals. The dentist, although not so much.
Make them aware. It's not uncommon, and the professionals then work with you and support whatever you need to get through the experience.
Can you find a 'safe place' in your head? One that you can focus on and calms you?
I have found that if I can focus on my 'safe place' and OH talks for me then I can get through most appointments. Surgeries are harder, but they know so I go in last and am always treated/operated on first. Generally I'm last leaving though because I react to the aneasthetic!
I was told I'd need CBT as it's psychological, so you may find that getting to the appointments is the first thing the appointments focus on.
Hang in there, keep getting better. You deserve it. I hope today went well for you.0 -
I went :j Had a few palpitations going in, but was called straight away. Nice clean, small room with a lovely therapist. Never did much, except talk.
Got told I was booked in for 6 months of treatment (the thought of 26 weeks of going there makes my blood go cold). Anyway told her everything. I think she'll need therapy after today (Lol).
Came home exhausted and have been for a lie down. Only changed my jumper, so things must be looking up;)
Thanks for the support.0 -
Well done, Mysecret! It IS exhausting, but like most things, it will get easier!0

Don't look at 26. Look at one. You only have to do it one appointment at a time.0

Hi Mysecret
I am so happy to read that you were able to go to your CBT appointment. I was struggling with a mental illness a few years ago, I got referred to CBT and had to cancel my first appointment due to my condition flaring up (sorry I'm not going to go into to much detail). Like you I felt so bad for not going, I wanted the help but just getting to the appointment was a hurdle in itself. CBT really worked for me and I hope it works for you too.0 -

oh I am so very pleased for you, well done you, just take one appointment at a time, don't look it in the 6 months idea just say to yourself that the next one is going tobe better and so on, small steps not giant leaps;)0 -
Well done you, bet you feel very very proud of yourself. And rightly so!
No need to think more than one week ahead. And you've already done the hardest one!0 -
i work as a secretary in a mental health team and we do come across this situation. just be really honest with the clinician you are due to see, ring and tell them or if this would be a struggle write down your feelings on paper and send to them.
there is a bit of flexibility with this in our team, if someone is that unwell that they cannot attend the hospital they are sometimes are offered home visits but this will depend on capacity and whether the team you are seeing offer this.
please make them aware and do not waste your chance to get better,
