I tried the local property management companies but they are charging £200+ for a simple flat pack metal shed. Seems like they all quote silly prices so they don't have to do the job.
The thing to do would be to advertise locally in a shop, or look in the adverts for a bloke offering odd jobs, talk to them and see what you think.
Get two or three or get some references off them from people that have had things done.
I'll mow the neighbours lawns and tidy for a fiver and cup of tea because they are nice , their some sees this and when he needed his getters doing I was the man, now I do work for him and his neighbours.0 -
Right, so, your general view is that as long as somebody works hard and gets after it, they can conceal some of their income if they want? And that trade licensing should be optional?
And as for your neighbors, do you actually know them and their circumstances, or have you just watched from afar and assumed that benefits are their only source of income?
Oh and another thing this *trade licensing* you are wittering about - waste carrying , well I don't have *waste* i recycle everything, if I can't I take it to the tip as a private individual but thats very rarely and I don't use a van. Or I ask if I can put in someones skip , or perhaps if it;s a big job we have a skip.

square-pants post is spot on.:T0 -
SBOG - Fair play to you doing what you do, if I had the bottle to do it I would myself.
Me - unemployed still, can't be arsed to sign on going on patronising interviews with DWP and the Flexible New Deal rubbish so what do I do?
I used to earn decent money in telecomm's but unfortunately haven't got the skills/certifications nowadays to get myself into a similar job so have to take whatever comes my way via minimum wage agencies, but that has all but dried up.
Turned 40 last week, got 2 young daughters and missus works full time but we're not entitled to anything so what happens when all the bills start rolling in on one wage?
I never thought I'd be in such a low place as where I am today but trust me, I wouldn't wish it on anybody, especially as a proud father and loving partner to have to endure the pain at not being able to provide or be able to take his offspring somewhere nice regularly!
Don't get me wrong, I'm not looking to blame somebody for my current position but when you have dependents and bills to pay, what do you do - what do you do if you can't get a basic job.....? I have idea's to make money but they're illegal and i'm not that way inclined.
If anybody wants to pick holes and feel like they want to kick a man when they're down then please feel free - it's a regular occurance on here lately. I can't do a lot btw at the moment as i'm the full time carer for my two little ones!
Any idea's i'm all ears0 -

What about pet sitting/walking etc etc? Taking animals to vets. Even then extending to doing those 'jobs' for people who don't have the time eg. shopping
Either as your own business or working for someone else. Google for local companies/people to a) see what they do/charge and b) see if they need any ad-hoc help.
The ones i have used are CRB checked and have some public liability insurance0 -
Before removing more items from derelict building and recycling areas you should check the law on theft by finding. As to these bricks - to clear this up for all the people so upset by it. The place is not just derelict but dangerous......I sweep and clear weeds from round a local social club/ hall type place. Often they have private functions where the bar isn't open and they allow people to bring cans etc, there are separate things for recycling and often by accident the cans fall into a black bin bag and then into the back of the estate.0

I'm a great believer in not trying to set my sights too high and to be willing to lower expectations.
I lost my job at the end of last year and am unable to claim benefits. Despite having a 1st class hons degree and completing post-grad study I got myself a job delivering a free publication. This led to an opportunity to deliver another free publication for which I negotiated a 50% uplift in rate due to my 'experience'. I've also since got a casual job with a travel firm. I love it all - to a great extent I'm my own boss and I earn enough to enable me to have the occasional treat......and the best bit is that I only work an average of 10 days/month! So, it might not be glamorous and I definitely need my trusty waterproofs BUT it beats a full time office job any day. The work is out there if you look for it.0 -

Well said that man. There is always work out n about. It just depends what people are prepared to do and for how much. That's the trouble with this countrys layabouts. They think the country owes them something. It's about time a stopwas put on this once and for all.Anyway, I'm detracting from the theme of this topic and will get off my soap box.
Another thing, can people stop jumping on their high horse asking SBOG whether he pays tax, NI and whether he "liberates" items from wherever. He has explained himself and as far as I can see it ends there. Most people on this thread are applauding him from not having velcro stuck to his backside and slobbing around watching Jeremy Kyle of a morning.
I do hope this thread continues not only with SBOG's tales but any others who care to share their experiences/ideas etc.
Right , that's me. I'm off now ........ to find a skip to look inAm the proud holder of an Honours Degree
in tea-making.
Do people who keep giraffes have high overheads ?0 -
as i sit here listing on ebay (yes i have both personal and business accounts and i am registered with HMRC as a sole trader for this purpose;)) i really love this refreshing thread....
only this morning as other posters have said i have now seen myself spotting cans, pallets and piles of bricks, wondering if they could be of any use to SBOG:).
also, yet again, how many of us value a 'handyman' who doesn't rip us off?
working in the public sector, i expect to be made redundant every month, every year and wonder how i would make a living when it happens.....i hope i can apply as much entrepreneurial skill as SBOG.0 -
