In my opinion, picking up 60 cans for 60p is a waste of time.

If your out walking the dog anyway, why not pick them up? and who says you are only picking up 60 cans. In a lot of places where the chavs hang out there are way more than that kicking around?

How about we put it this way:
If each can was actually a one pence piece, it would not be worth collecting them for most people.

If I went out on the streets collecting pennies, I'd have to find 500 per hour to beat an NMW cleaning job. I doubt I'd even find 100 in an hour, even if they were as common as cans.

This sounds a bit daft to me. Not even going into the fact that 60 cans would take up a large amount of space, would you walk around with carrier bags for them?

Eh? You stamp on them to make them flat , you get about 5KG in a bin bag and that takes up no space, I collect a few here and there if I see them walking the dog and like I said when I and cleaning up. I only take them in once a year if I get enough, it;s just one of many things I do.

I'd be lucky to get 60 a time - the parties perhaps , and at Xmas, .

I doubt you get that round here - 75 or less I reckon. They never pay top money for a car full of bin bags , they want a tonne of them to get that price.

I've possibly 15 or so without looking. It's something top do in the summer months , clearing the garden and surrounds of all bags and bits and pieces. I have some aluminium strips from old double glazing units and partitions too. It's a case of getting all together.

Either way we are only talking £20 if that - but it all goes in the pot!

I was clearing a garden before xmas and it had an old shed full of junk they wanted rid of. Full of old bits and pieces and what I thought was a bag of concrete but it was rolls of old lead flashing unused, years old, Kerching!
  • Shouldbeoutgardening:

What a refreshing thread, it's nice to see someone out grafting for a living for a change, good for you.

I don't know if you've heard of that site where people let you use their land to grow fruit or veg on, I can't remember what it is called but I'm sure someone does. Basically, in exchange for cleaning up someone's garden or allotment, they let you grow whatever you want on it (in exchange for a few of the spoils no doubt!).

Might be of use to you. :o

Shouldbeoutgardening......Good on ya fella for having some entrepreneurial spirit in you.Pity some of todays
lazy layabouts don't heed your actions/ideas. Ok, you aren't making big bucks doing some itsy bitsy jobs, but like you said, it's all adding to the pot. There must be loads of folk out there who would willingly pay a small amount rather than get a professional in for 1/2 day or be charged a whole days worth.

It's like if you had a reasonable sized van I'm sure there's people who would need a hand back with flat packs, plasterboard etc.....and of course an extra pair of hands is welcomed to hold the plasterboard up to the ceiling, and not forgetting that some people get all in a tizz with constructing flat packed items....and you just happen to be there anyway ;)

Good luck in your ventures. Keep us all posted eh.

    :)
