Hi, this is the Daily Thread for Monday 9th January. This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or slow internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred.

When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” type start does just as well.

Morning all
Hubby's 1st day at his new job seems to have gone OK, he's working a 3 shift system & this week he is all 3 shifts in one week just so he can learn how it works, next week he's on early's & will start at 6:45.
I have a couple of achey muscles today, but only minor, so it's back to the fray, let's see what the little bu**ers can throw at me today.
I ordered a BT Big Button phone that arrived yesterday, so now I can make & receive phone calls, mind you most of the calls I get are from callcenters, despite being registered with the Telephone Preference Service.
The kettle is calling, time for another cuppa.
Have a good day everyone.
Hugs Hester

Morning Hester! Your title (July) made me instantly happier - roll on summer! Have you just booked a summer holiday, perchance?

  • VfM, no I'm just stupid, I'm having problems with my PC & it keeps turning on Autofill, amongst other things.
    I'll change it now.

  • Morning All,

I have been MIA the last few days, but I am back. I realised im spending far too much going out for coffee with friends, doing neither my waist line or my wallet any good, so I have convinced my knitting friends to come round to mine for tea today instead of going out, hopefully that will save a few pennies.

I am not on a very tight budget for the rest of the month, so tonight I am going to try cooking a vegetable soup, but I dont have any stock, they dont sell stock in Korea except at a foreign food store which is about 2 hours away from me. Lets hope that I can make it semi decent with a lot of salt, pepper and herbs.

I am also trying to save a bit of money as I'm off to Japan for my vacation in about 10 days and that is renowned for being expensive so trying to be as frugal as possible until then.

Bramble- I hope yesterday went as well as can be expected.
BethBee - good to see you posting, take it easy for a little bit
LameWolf - reading your post makes my heart ache, I have a friend with Lupus and so am only too aware of how debilitating it can be. She has also been struggling with her meds recently.
JG - any sign of roo yet?

Have a good day everyone, sending hugs to all that need/want one.

    Morning everyone,

Slept like a log last night and feel refreshed this morning.

Hugs to Bramble, Beth, LW, Uolypool and Lou and apologies if I have missed anyone.

Hope you have a better day at work today Hester.

    JG, are you still here?

My ballet class starts again tonight, will be fun but hard work after all that slobbing around over Christmas.

Lots of my classes and DS have exams coming up in the next couple of weeks so lots of hard work there hopefully. There are quite a few nervous ones though, spent quite a while yesterday calming down one very worried girl.

    Tea tonight is spaghetti bolognese.

    Have a lovely day everyone.:)

    Hi all.
Any news from JG? Getting excited now! Boys woke me up at crack of dawn with the noise they were making. House looks like a nightmare - can't imagine anyone coming to have a look at it, so am going to start this afternoon making the house blander and less cluttered. Starting with DS1s room. Dinner tonight will be ???? but something from the fridge I think.

Not 100% with it at the moment - must try harder!
Me, OH, grown DS, (other DS left home) and Mum (coming up 80!). Considering foster parenting. Hints and tips on saving £ always well received. Xx

March 1st week £80 includes a new dog bed though £63 was food etc for the week.

    Morning :hello:

I spent most of yesterday wandering around the house picking things up, examining them then throwing them in various bins :D There's quite a pile of rubbish near the front door, I'll throw it out/recycle it today.

I have various bits and pieces that might sell on e-bay, I'll drag them out and sort through. Then put them in a pile in a corner somewhere, where they'll stay until I can be bothered to take photos :D

I cut up loads of twigs/thin branches with new secateurs. They're slightly larger than my old ones, they've left me with blisters all over my hand, it's really sore :(

I didn't get round to jiggling the spreadsheets. I MUST do that this week. I cleaned up the laptop though, and got rid of all bookmarks for survey sites, deleting accounts as I went. The surveys have got longer and the rewards for doing them has gone down, also when you get close to the payout amount the surveys dwindle to almost never. I can think of more productive and money-saving ways to spend my time.

  • Good morning everyone.
It's a bit chilly here today. Washing will have to go on the airer.
DS and his GF are getting the keys to their flat next week. We went with them last night to order a fridge freezer and a microwave for them. They paid for a washing machine. They have been buying everything else too. I had to smile, they wanted delivery for the day they get the keys. The store couldn't say when in the day it would be but for £5 extra they could do afternoon delivery. They both said no, they would wait until the next day when it was free and they were available all day. Maybe some of my ways have rubbed off on them. They are taking us to see it tonight.
Dinner tonight is cottage pie with roast potatoes.
Hope everyone has a good day and hugs to those who need them.

  • Roo and I are still here!

Been having a few aches and pains (since Sunday) so we are hopeful (HAH!) but I am feeling very positive about the sweep on Thursday...

It kind of hit me last night... I'm going to have a baby!

OS I have to make 2 loaves of bread... and collect DS from school this afternoon!

Oh, I am so proud of myslef last night... I have been so poorly I haven't been able to cook without getting dizzy in the kitchen, but the Low BP has slowely been easing... so last night I cooked chilli for the boys, they were over the moon as it's been 8 months since I cooked a 'proper' meal (DH has been doing the cooking) and it went down really well! And I realised how much I missed cooking... can't wait until Roo is here and i can start doing it all again :D

Hope everyone has a good day x
We spend money we don't have, on things that we don't need, to impress people we don't like. I don't and I'm happy!
