  • I use dior compact powder on top of my foundation and wanted to know if anyone has used it and moved on to a cheaper brand and still liked it just as much.....any recommendations?

I can justify spending a bit extra on my skincare as I have tried cheaper alternatives but the result is always dry red peeling skin or spots.

I wish I could use more products without having a bad reaction to them

    I use -

    Cleanser - Burts bees orange
Moisturiser - Decleor Aroma Purete Matt
    Foundation - Bare minerals matte
    Blusher - Bare minerals

I've been promising myself Touche Eclat for years and haven't got round to buying it! I have awful dark circles round my eyes, mostly hereditary I think, even in photos of me as a toddler they're quite bad:(

Dont forget that Touche Eclat is a highlighter and not a concealer :)

I am currently a religious user of Waitrose Bottom Butter at mere £3.
I am however extremely partial to Kiehls, Space NK, Aveda, Clarins, Philip Kingsley etc etc but end up barely using them because I am so afraid of running out of them. (must use up though as part of Challenge!)

I use the Waitrose Baby Bottom Butter as a night cream as i would find it too greasy for the daytime. When do you use it?

All depends on my mood, I always use Revlon Colourstay foundation, so thats mid range, I'm using Benefit bronzer and blusher atm so premium, Stila Lip glaze, again premium and Bourjois Mascara, so high street, lash extensions, 20 pairs for £10 online, I feel I should mention the fabulous No 17 range which I dip in and out of when I fancy a change.

Skincare - I have super fussy facial skin but what is working now and has been for ages is Boots essentials cumcumber range, very very cheap and often on 3 for 2 so thats even less than high street;) For my body I use fake tan, I buy a professional spray tan solution and apply with a mitt myself, £25 for about 4 months supply using it twice a week, so premium product but super cheap price tag;) I have to be careful with body moisturiser as most have oil in which strips my tan but I have found Avenoo Oat which doesn't destroy my colour and leaves my skin hydrated and soft, about £7 from Boots etc.

Haircare, premium all the way, I love Redken.

I hope this isnt silly to ask..but do you wear bronzer and blusher at the same time? As i am milk bottle white ive never used bronzer. Also are the lash extensions similar to false eyelashes, and how long do they last per pair? I would love to try fake tan, but i dont have a clue how to actually apply it and how to avoid making a mess! One last question...lol, do you use a special fake tan for your face and does it affect you beauty regime? :)
  • I tend to use Maxfactor. The sole reason is because they are the only decently priced brand that caters to my terribly pale skin. For some reason this has made me trust their other products too. This is very silly logic but I have a very pale skin tone and I can't afford to buy a bottle of orange from another brand!

Regarding makeup, the two items that I really believe you get what you pay for are mascara and foundation. I would never stray from Lancome Hypnose mascara and MAC Studio Sculpt foundation. Other than that, I do own a few nice (eg Benefit, MAC, Urban Decay) stuff, but for eyeshadows and blushers I mainly have a lot of cheapo stuff. ELF is particularly good!

With skincare, I think it's worth paying for a good serum and sunscreen. I find French stuff to be quite good - La Roche-Posay and Vichy are good for serums and daily sunscreen (I advocate wearing SPF 50 every day of the year, it's THE best way to avoid wrinkles) But then I use Boots Botanics moisturiser on top of fancy serums (and then a thin layer of pure coconut oil [£16 H&B] on top of that!). I always just use the cheapest face wash, because they are the only ones that I seem to be able to use to remove eye makeup in the shower, the high-end stuff tends to say 'avoid delicate eye area'! And the cheapest face wipes or value baby wipes for correcting makeup mistakes too.

I think, in summary, it's good to experiment and find what works for you, and there are some things that I think are worth paying a higher price for, and other things that do the same job for a fraction of the price.

I have hypersensitive skin which is combination too. I have found that the best routine for me is: Liz Earle cleanser, currently using Liz Earle toner, Pai rosehip oil (at night) and Pai moisturiser in the morning. I want to invest in Kheils creamy avacado eye cream and a clarisonic Mia as well.

Make up wise I use a fair bit of high end products but some cheaper ones too:

    Foundation: Mac matchmaster
    Primer: L'oreal
    Concealor: Collection 2000
Eyeshadows: Urban Decay Naked Palettes (1and2 - Christmas presents)
Mascara - currently Make Up Forever (my friend picked it up in NY for me)
Lips: ATM, Chanel Boy or Clarins Lip Protector
    Blush/Bronzer: Clarins/Nars/Mac

thanks, I didn't know that until I'd bought it and read up on it. Seems to work quite well underneath the shadows :) Bought Benefit Erase Paste and that certainly helps a quite a lot. Next purchase - Benefit They're Real mascara, girl at the counter put some on me at the same time as the Erase Paste and I was super-impressed with the curl!

I've become a bit obsessed though over recent weeks with buying skincare and make up I can't afford. It'll pass - all my obsessions do - I just wish it wasn't such an un-MSE one :(
