Janine, glad to hear you had a good day yesterday. As with everything in life, there are ups and downs, and I really hope there will be more good days than bad ones.

I don't have any experience of this, and I hope that my babies will stay put for long enough, but I am fully aware that they can come very early, an i may have to go through similar thing. If there is anything I can be help with, just let me know. And I mean it - it is not just a few words on the forum.

*hugs* No advice, just to say that you're going through a lot and be positive!

Both my kids were prem, and now they're both thriving. I've had 2 emergency c-sections and in all probability will not have any more.

The heartache of not seeing your child straightaway (I didn't see my eldest until 9 hours later) and then having to leave the hospital without them, there is nothing in the world to prepare you for the agony that goes through your heart. I was lucky that my hospital was only a few minutes away so everyday we did 2/3 trips.

It sounds like Poppy is improving and hopefully soon you can have her with you :)

I'm not sure if you have to take nappies in Jannine or if you will need them when LO comes home, but the Premmie nappies from Sainsburys at the moment down to £1.28 a pack :) Size 0's xx

  • Hugs again chick, you sound very positive today :)

Glad Poppy is feeding from you and gaining weight, excellent news.

I have sent you a pm, I too am from Lancashire.

The arrival of our first child was a very similar experience to yours (born @ 29 weeks but had stopped growing prior to that - weighed just a shade over 2 pounds). My wife's pre-eclampsia was so severe that I thought at one point I was going to lose them both.

That was 16 years ago. Despite how poorly OH was with number one, we then went on to have healthy twins who were also prem (32 weeks but weighed about 5 pounds each and home in no time), though this was because they are a rare type of twin who shared both the cord and the amniotic sac rather than problems with the wife's health or age.

My only advice is really to 'ride the rollercoaster'. Yes, at times it is scary and you feel you have no control, but in the big scheme of things, it will be the tiniest window of time compared to the rest or yours and your baby's lives. Take each day as it comes and try not to worry too much about 'milk production' as it will eat away at you (based on my own experience as 'supportive partner'). Give what you can and at the worst it will supplement the formula whilst still passing on your natural antibodies etc. The main thing is that your baby puts on weight and develops to the point where you can go home together.

I wish you all the best

    Darren
