i have a feeling this has already been answered, but can we literally just close the accoutn once the next match has been paid?
Yes - you need to both cancel the STC, and close the account. However it seems we're in the minority judging from my highly scientific poll over at http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/....html?t=395146

    The relevant T&C is:

The number they ask you to ring is 0845 3 000 000 - saynoto0870.com suggest 0207 7857654 as an alternative.

Unfortunately, as I found out today, you can only cancel the STC on the phone (I rang the 0207 number) - and clicking help on the account website provides an 0800 number that tells you that you 'can close your savings/current account over the phone' on but when I rang that one, they told me directly that "the website is wrong.'

The only way to close the account is either in writing, or by visiting any branch in person.

I've settled for emptying the account at the moment.

So in effect you have closed the account and closed the STC as Lloyds require a minimum balance of £1.00 to maintain the account.
  • Well done everyone.

Please look out for a new thread that will announce how to enter the contest.

Almost, but not quite. Closing the account would result in accrued interest being paid on closure. As it stands, the interest is still outstanding.

I don't like loose ends anyway, and will close it next time I'm in-branch.

I've received my STC payments too :T

    £40 for February
    £40 for March

    I'll probably cancel STC soon.
