I was told you will get the purple card if that's the one you are allowed and if you are rejected for that one it is virtually impossible to get it. If you apply in branch they can see straight away what you can get and can appeal it, but once the application stage is past there is nothing they can do.

I had to apply for a whole new account just to get the purple card and a cheque book!

The thing is, it's a brand new account that I got accepted for that's the worst thing.

Me to. Then it turned out no cheque book, blue card. So the manager said the only thing he could do was open another account as he could then appeal, though he reckons appealing rarely works. So I opened another account a few weeks later and it offered me everything instantly - including a £3k overdraft!. I suspect the staff member I opened the first account with pressed some wrong buttons. The manager was as surprised as I was, but it went through fine and the purple card arrived along with a cheque book.

TBH it was the cheque book I needed not the purple card. If you don't use pay at pump or trains, I doubt there is much difference.

  • Hi

I am hoping someone can advise?

I had a step account with a solo card for a couple of years and then upgraded to a select account, I now have the blue card starting with 4751 27, so its a 'restricted' card.

I received a letter from Natwest yesterday
"Notice of new visa debit card", this is for my select/current account.

I called Natwest this morning and all the helpdesk could tell me a new card has been ordered with the word UPGRADE against it.

Has this happend to anyone else, and if so did Natwest upgrade to the purple card?

    Thanks in advance. :)

You could call and ask what the card number starts with, then you will know the answer.

    Nope, standard purple card

I phoned Natwest when I first got the letter and they thought I was being upgraded to contactless, not purple. Turns out its the other way round :)
