    Update:

Purple card arrived this morning and overdraft approved. They have upgraded to purple without me asking for it :T

i'm confused (as usual:)) - was the overdraft given to you without you asking for it as well OR did you originally request an overdraft and as a by-product of being approved for that they also upgraded your card to purple without you asking for it?

i'm interested because i was once a poor old step account holder but applied for a select account (non-silver proper one) when atm access was going to be a problem for me with the new basic account, i applied for select account without asking for overdraft/chequebook and was granted it but given a blue debit card - i wonder if i'll be upgraded to purple without asking as well?

The blue debit card can be issued when you have a "no credit" rating, so no overdraft, no cheque book and blue card go together.

thanks silvercar - so me not asking for overdraft/chequebook in application (oh and a poor credit rating:)) more or less guaranteed me a blue debit card - oh well i'm working and my defaults will drop off my credit file in 2014 so maybe i'll be allowed a purple contactless card then.:D

The purple card was an automatic upgrade, then I thought I would push my luck and apply for an overdraft :D

In addition to my blue and my purple debit cards, today a red card arrived.

No signature strip and titled online banking card.

I'm quite confused- I applied for an account, get a blue card. It does work when buying tickets on the train etc. and I have a completely clean credit record other than 2 mobile contracts and an O/D (not natwest). I add my partner to the account some time later- she had a default outstanding on her credit report (now paid off - I understand that we will be linked etc. etc.), yet she gets a purple card?

Is there really any difference between the two?

Incidentally, on one of their systems my card is listed as "VISA DEBIT FULL AU" wheras my partner is "VISA DEBIT". There is defiantly a difference, but I don't know what...

Very odd set up if you ask me...

Is your card contactless by any chance? :D

Hi. Sorry to bother you but I have a quick question. Originally I had a basic acc. Then I upgraded to a select silver acc in order to continue to use all the ATM's etc. Sometime later I was told that I still had a basic acc and that I should apply for a Select acc if I wanted the bank's 'normal' current account. I applied and now have a new Select acc including a chq book etc.

My question is this: do I need to run both accs for a while? I want the mobile phone insurance that comes with the old select silver basic acc but I want to utilise the new select acc? Is it possible to upgrade the new select acc to silver and keep the credit scored status? Would the bank penalise me for having 2 silver accs?

Also is it possible to get a contactless card if I don't have an overdraft but do have a chq book?

Any advice would be gratefully received. :T

There would be no harm in using both accounts providing you use them within the terms do not go over drawn etc.

I'm not sure of your circumstances however you could use one account for everyday spends and the other for bills if you would still like to keep the select silver benefits.

If you have a purple debit card on your select account you can request a contactless debit card. However they are only available at the moment if you have a purple debit card.

I have an online card with Barclays but it works on trains - used it twice now without issue. Just got a Select a/c with RBS - blue debit card. Should I keep hold of my Barclays card then for use on trains if the blue one wont work?

I would keep your Barclays debit card if it works on trains have you tried your blue RBS card on the train yet?
