  • Somewhat chilly day here, and as a birthday week treat DH has made me a roaring log fire. Turning into a slug and don't want to move!

Although no one can go back and make a brand new start, anyone can start from now and make a brand new ending.... life is a WIP.

Not my most productive day - but tried to get on top of some paperwork. Tidied the drawer of my bedside table & took me ages to find new homes for lots of stuff. Cleaned landing window, made pastry & jam tarts and S&S kitchen.

WM x 2 and all hung on the drying rack. Bought 8 boxes of persil non-bio 50 wash size as reduced to half-price in Tesco. Can hardly move now in downstairs loo/laundry room without bumping into boxes. Early night as I've work tomorrow.

    Evening all

Not much flying done today, bit of laundry and a wipe round of the bathroom. Ironing all done. I'll start a fresh with my lists next week just need to check if I have any little bits to carry forward.

CY great bargain, I like fatface, shame there is not one in our town. Can I ask how much the photos were. I went to the booth in town today but it was OOO - it was due to be £5 which sounded a lot.

  • Dusty,
Read your post regarding your boiler. I'm a Plumber/Heating engineer and always tell my customers to stick to a few golden rules.
Ask any engineer who comes to give you an estimate for a detailed breakdown of everything he's going to do and get it in writing.
Ask him to supply a few references, not just one!
If he/she says they can carry out the work at the drop of a hat, beware! He may be dodgy, good plumbers/heating engineers are generally busy!
Do your homework regarding the specified boiler, dont buy cheap no matter how tempted you are, you get what you pay for!
Ask friends and family about their boilers and about anyone who has carried out work in their house.
NEVER hand over cash until the boiler has been fitted and always ask for evidence the boiler has been correctly notified to the local authority.
Always use a Gas Safe Registered engineer and check him out with Gas Safe by looking at his picture on the Gas Safe web site.
Sorry to be so anal with the advice but I've been reading some of the posts on here regarding fixing/fitting boilers and they are ridiculous.
Last but not least, if you're on a budget a Potterton Gold is a good boiler at a reasonable price, if you're not on a budget Worcester are doing a deal at the moment where if the boiler is registered with them within a week of purchase you get 5 years warranty! Trust me, Worcester dont give much a way!

I'll add that the Heating & Hot Water Industry Council has excellent advice on their website including details on the Benchmark Scheme. Btw...when you get quotes in, post them for comments over on
    In My Home.
