Hello everyone. Welcome to the Weekly Spend Challenge. This challenge is open to anybody, no matter what financial place they are in.

On this thread please post an amount of money you wish to stay below within the week (Sunday to end of working day on Friday). This can be pennies or thousands it depends on the individual. Then next Saturday report back and pledge for the following week. The challenge runs from Sunday to Friday so we don't include Saturdays but feel free to change the rules to suit you and include Saturdays or start on a different day.

Feel free to update this thread with daily spends if that keeps you on track. We colour code the results as below:

Green - within budget
Red - overbudget
Purple - zero spend
Orange - made money over the week

This is a little bit of fun but for many it highlights the fact that maybe that magazine/chocolate bar isn't needed. Hopefully your spending habits can be changed forever.

Moozie was the founder of this challenge and here is a quote taken from her:

The challenge is about incidental spending and not for stuff that should be budgeted elsewhere such as bills, groceries, debt repayment etc but you decide what to include at the end - this is about changing your habits and improving your recording of your spends more than anything else. Have a great week everyone and keep it low!!! Moozie x"

Good luck everyone.

    Afternoon all

I have just returned from a fun packed weekend in London. I went to see Wicked and it was brilliant. Anyway back to reality and budgeting for the rest of the month.

I was green last week and I have £10 in my purse at the moment I was going to go for £10 this week but I think I will go for £20 in case anything crops up as so far I have no plans for the week. I am planning on taking my lunch each day so spends should be minimal. I don't have much left for incidental spends until payday so need to try and stay on track.

I have updated all the pledges and last week's thread let me know if I have missed anything. Thanks as always to LC for keeping everything running smoothly.

Enjoy what is left of the weekend everyone.

  • I would love to see Wicked. I actually worked in central London for 2 years and only managed to see 2 shows the whole time I was living there. Rather typically, I'd love it now I live at the other end of the country.
I've done some extra tutoring today so I've made £35 to start the week. Fingers crossed I can hang onto it!
NSD as well so double fingers crossed.

Went to see Wicked in November and it was fantastic. Best show I've seen.

So far £12 a week seems to be working for me. So that's what I'll go for again. I haven't got much lined up (just work and more work) but I'd like to keep it at £12 for anything that might crop up :)

    So far

    Sunday - NSD :)

    £12/£0 :T

    Have a great week.

    Hi everyone

Thanks for the thread pp, sounds like you had a fantastic weekend! I'd love to go to the theatre, we have the Bristol Hippodrome which is fab but have only been once in my adult life which was maybe 6 years ago and saw Shane Richie in A Christmas Carol - he was very good to be fair! Oh yes, some gossip ... over Christmas the Hoff was in panto at the Hippodrome and he got kicked out of the Marriott Royal where he was staying because he kept crashing people's work Christmas parties and insulting them!!! Annoyingly my Christmas party was in the other Marriott this year, last year's was at the Royal and to think what could have been...! :rotfl:

Enough rambling... here's the plan (loving your OCD WelshDreamer, but sorry I've dragged you down to my level!!!)...

Sun 8 Jan - £3.80 pub (was meant to be coffee!!! :o )
Planned Mon 9 Jan - True NSD, work 0745-2000
Planned Tue 10 Jan - AL, NSD for challenge, haircut £40 budgeted
Planned Wed 11 Jan - NSD for challenge, couple of bits from food budget as fresh, work 0745-2000
Planned Thu 12 Jan - True NSD, work 0745-2000
    Planned Fri 13 Jan - Starbucks £3.10, work 0745-2000

    Total so far: £3.80/£15

    Hi Guys!

Newbie here to the weekly spend challenge! Im desperately trying to get my finances in gear, and need to start budgetting and planning....Two words ive avoided for a LONG time.

I'd like to start at £30 a week please and see how I go for now :)

Will definitely try and keep minimal spending during the week and then I can have a little treat at the weekend with my OH :)

    Sealed Pot Challenge #1717! £30.16 :D
  • I want to join this please if that is at all possible.

I have disposable income of around £400 minimum per month, but I always seem to spend it on rubbish! and mostly, online stuff so, to me, it looks like I've spent it on nothing!

I am on holiday from work this week, and am going out for 2 days on day's out, so I want to pledge to spend no more than £60 this week.

I'm going to put that amount in my purse, and then leave my cards at home :)
    SAVINGS: £63.86 // £3,000
