Did anyone else read the post from West is Best then think the text on the rest of the page was rather small :rotfl:
Ohhh the good old days and I was a late 70s baby. I walked or cycled everywhere and rarely watched TV. I was bucked out when I'd had my brekkie and made up excuses to not have to go in for dinner. Mind you, those were the days when no-one knew there was an underbelly of society like we have now. Thinking back, my bro & I used to go up to a local wood and climb trees, capture crickets and put them in big sweetie jars and generally have loads of fun. There's 2 problems with that scenario these days:
1. the wood is now a Ts (that's good and bad at the same time!)
2. I wouldn't let my kids go that far from home
There was a graphic in one of the national rags a couple of years ago showing how things have changed over the years in terms of how far parents let their kids go from home. I'll have a look later and see if I can find it but basically it was saying that back in my parents day they were allowed out unsupervised for miles & miles yet by the time my kids will be big enough, they'll not be allowed beyond the front gates.
ZX Spectrum - that's what got me into computers and eventually led to my profession. I remember my dad showing me how to write a short program that converted temperatures from C to F. It was all downhill from there
I used to love flying downhill on skateboards, bikes, skooters and skates (my folks couldn't afford new ones so I had my mums old ones that were metal and extended - think someone called them gnashers earlier). Those were the days alright
Mum and Dad had bought a pig to wean so we had meat in the freezer, but after paying £10 (which was a fortune for them) for the pig, it died 2 weeks later (I remember my Mother crying her heart out, because we depended on the pig to feed us), so my Brothers used to go out hunting rabbits for meat..Everything we had on the table came from the land, we lived on a small holding farm, so Mum and dad didnt have much money...
Mum even made her own butter.. there were no sweet's or chocolates or biscuits, but if Mum had the time she'd make us some welsh cakes.. needless to say they didnt last long!!!!!
She used to make all our my sister's clothes which was then handed down to me.. luckily my uncle had 3 boys so my brothers had hand me down from them...
She always had a branch of Golden Chain "airing" on the rayburn, and by christ did it hurt!!!!!!! :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:
we had nothing, BUT we were soooooooo happy!!!!!
I watch my DD's of an evening, both are either texting or on facebook, their in their own little dream... where as we used to play games and cards...
Bear in mind, Im only 45, so its not back that far!!!!! (she kids herself!!!)
One last one... My Mother made some potato wine one Christmas, some neighbours turned up one night and ended up fast alseep on the Kitchen table until dinner time next day. My dad had to go and milk the cows for him!!!! :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:
The funny thing is... Mum's 80 this year, Dads 79. They still grow their own veg and we always have our beef from them. We used to have our Christmas Turkey from them up until 2 years ago... This is probably why Im in Slimming World!!!!!!! :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:0 -

Children collected them and took them to the chemists who bought them and moved them on for the production of rose hip syrup. A valuable source of vit C for children thenAwaiting a new sig0 -

And the cheese biscuits recipe - again scavenged from here
Cheesy Biscuits
Makes about 20 Ritz sized biscuits
50g SR flour
25g butter/marge
80g grated mature cheddar ( I sometimes use half this amount of cheese and they're still yummy )
splash of milk
Mix all ingredients together and knead a little until you have a ball
Roll out to about 2 1/2mm and cut into shapes
Bake at 200c/Gas6 for about 8-10 minutes until they start to colour.
The original recipe said to add 20g Parmesan and a pinch cayenne pepper too but they’re just as yummy without. You could use an egg yolk instead of the milk to bind.
1st attempt I added paprika and did use Parmesan but also doubled the recipe - made 2 baking trays full of them!- which are already down to about one tray lol but I have sent some over to my parents
Xxx enjoy
Oops. Sorry I am reading backwards! Thanks :T:A Every moment is a gift. That's why we call it the present.!:A
