Sorry to drag this on for those who are getting bored:o but I didn't address your last question in my first reply. I would guess that some flaws would show up part way through the process before the backstamp is applied. To save wasting a perfectly good pot they continue to glaze but use a different backstamp? For seconds detected after the final firing then perhaps that,s where my "squiggily" mark is applied or a line through the backstamp. Probably making this up. I'm sure an expert might come along put us all out of our misery!:rotfl:

Not boring me!! Anyhoo, it's all healthy conversation.

If the topic needs to move on, I have an idea...

What MSE thing do you do that you would probably only confess on here but never in real life????

I'll tell you mine. I did it this morning.

The vacuum suction was weak so I knew that the bag must be full.

I got the bag out and emptied it out of the hole that the hose connects too. It is a mucky job which calls for finger dexterity and takes 3or4 mins but it saves the price of a replacement hoover bag!!!

Depends on the temperature you cooked it at, but general rule is 20 minutes per pound weight, plus an additional 20 minutes.

I think, working backwards, 14lb joint would need 5 hours at around gas mark 5/6 170/180 fan

It was 4.45kg which according to online converters is 9.8lb, make that 10, 220 minutes is 3h40. I cooked it at 200c so it may well be properly done....well I guess I'll find out for sure later when I carve it! Thank you!

ETA- I do that with my "upstairs" hoover all the time

when i emptied my "downstairs" hoover a couple of weeks ago, the filter was looking WELL past its sell by. So I took a fork to it and got all the dust and hair out of it. Saves me the money for a new filter :j

I am sure i have a few more but cant think of them at the mo; will come back to you on that!

No expert here but wondered how would the potters detect the flaws as the work would be in the kiln , surely defects are found after firing ...and I thought backstamps would be added prior to firing ..

    we need that expert .

Oh by the way Artha , loved your , he lived life ...cheaply .
