Thanks midwinter, I'm full of admiration for you. Just wish mine would eat lasagne etc. I know it's me being 'soft' but sometimes have to do different stuff for different people! I do batch cook etc but whereas I love casseroles, lasagne etc, they won't eat them. When I used the slow cooker OH didn't like having the 'smell' of cooking in the house!

Sorry but what is spavving? :o On the bright side, you can add language teacher to your accomplishments.:T

I must admit, menu wise, it'll be easier once DS1 goes back to uni. He and DS2 have very different tastes, as well as what they will/won't eat. I do try to freeze various things in portion sizes, then can reheat for the specific DS. Yes it's a pain cooking different meals, but it can be done :)

"spavving" is spending to save. Sometimes you've just got to spend the money at some specific point, to get the best deal/bargain. And as long as the goods have a good use by date, and you have the storage, then go for it! e.g. I think I got around 30 tins of the homepride chilli sauce when it went down to 10p. They're still good for another year, an you can pad it out with an extra can of kidney beans, reducing the meat cost :)

Thought I'd pop to Mr T's to get some whoopsies today, total waste of time. 10% off with 10 minutes to go, so didn't bother.

Got 2 packs of McCains oven chips with the vouchers, so 50p each. That's 16 packs in the freezer so far :)

Then went to Sainsbobs, McCains micro chips 4 pk are £1 each or £1.50 for 2, had 2 vouchers so 2 packs for 50p.

Then went to Mr T's express, got 5 packs of 3 Solero lollies @ 65p each, another 2 packs of 4 powerade @ £1 each (15 packs in shed):D and got some purina cat food £4.16 minus a £1.50 voucher.
Hi can you tell how you get the Powerade for £1? thanks:)

Seen on the front cover of the new Mr T magazine

"Save money this year with Martin Lewis"

Then it goes on to explain the benefits of "wombling" , "glitching" , whoopsie-ing" and "DTD"

OK I made that bit up but don't you know Mr T , Martin is already helping us save money but thanks for your help!!!

I've got a question, this gammon joint said to roast for 5 hours (working it out on a weight basis), I checked it at 2h45 and it seemed done, so I took the foil off (it said to do this for the last 30 mins) and put it back in, 15 mins later I checked it later and it seemed to be done, juices running clear and everything.

Now 5 hours is for a conventional oven, mine is fan assisted, could it really be done? All appearances seem positive......

It's out of the oven now with the fat taken off, looks a nice colour and the juices still seem to be running clear wherever I prod it, so I've wrapped it in a tea towel to cool and locked the cats out of the kitchen!

Went to big blue swedish furniture retailer in MK today, stopped off at the nearby B0ots and got another 15 shots, 15 vits and 5 nivea shaving gels for £9.99!:j

Only had 6 pots of the cheaper vit pots so got some Boots effervescent vit C tabs x 9 @ £2.55

    it took 8 x £1.99 off the bill (£15.92), multisave x 3 @ £1.99 + 3 for 2 x 5 @ £1.99,

it takes an extra £1.99 off the bill for every 5 shots you "buy" plus the 3 for 2 ,

so best to buy in groups of 3 and 5, 15 for max discount!

Met another MSE'r in there, who seeing my basket asked if there were any left and are you from MSE! there was another 6-10 left but none of the cheap vits unfortunately!

Hope you found some bargains and Hi if your reading this!!

Depends on the temperature you cooked it at, but general rule is 20 minutes per pound weight, plus an additional 20 minutes.

I think, working backwards, 14lb joint would need 5 hours at around gas mark 5/6 170/180 fan
