CookieRaider wrote: »Anyone used a slowcooker before? Got a Crockpot the other day and i'm going to break it in this weekend (just hope i don't break it) have tried to look for online tips but they are all different. It's stewing steak that i will be cooking, do i put all the veg at the bottom with the meat on top and do i brown the meat first do i cover it all with stock and how long i have read about 8hrs but is that on high or low and how do you thicken at the end? add bisto? HELP
Ive just done a beef stew this morning in my slow cooker, this is what I do..
I brown the stewing steak in a frying pan.
while thats browning, I put a tin of tomatoes, a tin of baked beans (optional) 2 oxo cubes, 4 small carrotts, an onion quartered and some frozen peas.
When the stewing steak is browned put it in the slow cooker (with the juices) with all the other ingredients and cover with boiling water..
cook on high (if you want it ready within about 6 hrs), otherwise turn it down to low once its hot.
I tend to thicken it up with a bit of cornflower about an hour before serving.

3 DOGS WHERE ARE YOU?
YOUR list keeping is needed again. i've been told that happychappy is reluctant to return, as hes taking more notice of the few against him as opposed to the many that enjoys his banter. so i'm calling all 11+ers to vote for happys return by a show of support.
so if everyone could post a message (many have done so already) to say come back and highlight it in say blue, so 3dogs easily see it. 3dogs as i know you read every post can you then put it into a list. thanks. so come back happychappy we miss you.0 -

I find that when I go to Waitrose too, people around actually looking happy to be working there. Very odd.
I worked for T's in Trowbridge for just over 6 months in 1998/99 and I loved it, mind you that was before all the stores got ginormous and out of control :rotfl:No Buying Unnecessary Toiletries 2023
