CookieRaider wrote: »Anyone used a slowcooker before? Got a Crockpot the other day and i'm going to break it in this weekend (just hope i don't break it) have tried to look for online tips but they are all different. It's stewing steak that i will be cooking, do i put all the veg at the bottom with the meat on top and do i brown the meat first do i cover it all with stock and how long i have read about 8hrs but is that on high or low and how do you thicken at the end? add bisto? HELP
I brown off the steak, make the sauce, then throw it all in the slow cooker together and cook it on high for about 5 hours. Dumplings still only take 20-30 minutes. My sauce is normally fairly thick because I coat the steak in flour once it's browned off. The cooking process seems to break down any potential lumps (thank God!!).What is this life if, full of care, we have no time to stand and stare0 -
Morning everyone. I was just trying to catch up a little before shooting off to work. If you're 'lurking' HC, please do whatever you need to do to get back on here. You're truly missed and it's not the same without you.
Hope the poorly people are feeling a bit better today - the weather is supposed to brighten up so I'm sure that will help.
I'll keep my fingers and toes crossed for some good DTDs and HC's return.

Morning all! HC come on back, we miss you
On another note, currently trying to steam one of the whoopsied gammon joints I got from Waitrose last week, trying the smaller one first. It says to boil you do 30 mins per 500g plus 30 mins which works out about 3h40, do you think it's the same for steaming? The steamer says around 30 mins per 400g for chicken breasts which works out at 3h51, I've got to check it every hour anyway to refill the water but I've never cooked a whole gammon joint before so won't know if I overcook it :eek:No Buying Unnecessary Toiletries 2023
