I was with orange for the last 12 months, but when it comes to upgrade they are rubbish, anyway I have got my pac code and ready to move on. FOund this deal with e2save for a NOKIA N73, the network is O2, so placed order and everything is fine.
Then I got an email right after the confirmation asking me to ring e2save up as they need to talk to me about the order, phoned them and they told me O2 wants £75 DEPOSIT for the phone, the money will be taken from my account immediately and will be paid back to me after 6 months. I was stunned as never heard of anything like this before, and I do have a very clearn credit record. So asked the chap why is it and he said he didn't know either it's just one of things that some network does, so wondering if anyone else on this site have heard of it before?
I wasn't happy with it at all so decided to cancel it, but still need to get a phone for myself as the pac code will expire within 30 days, but should I be cautious about approaching O2 again as the same problem may happen?
Would really appreciate any advice.

Hiya, not sure about the O2 problem, but you can ask for another PAC code when that one expires, so don't panic if you haven't sorted something in time."I wasn't wrong, I just wasn't right enough.":smileyhea97800072589250

Exactly the same happened to me when I changed from Orange to 02 with E2Save. They took £100 deposit. I thought it might be something to do with my credit records. There was a slight inconsistency with my address details but that's it. I did have to remind O2 to refund the money after six months but they did so without problem. You will get it back so I shouldn't worry about it unless you can't afford to let the cash out of your account right now.0

Well, it's not about whether I can afford the 75quid, it's why should I give them that money?? They could just say no if they don't think I'm a good customer, why make this kind of cheap trick to try to get money out of people for no reason.....0

Hi Christal, if you give me the package that E2 Save were offering you then I will find the same one where you will not have to pay a deposit.

Thanks Jay, what e2save is offering is with O2 network, 400mins(anytime any network) and 100 text, they are asking for £35 line rental per month, and 8 months half price line rental through cash back, so it works out £280 for 12 months in total after cash back, and the phone is free.
I don't actrually need that many mins, anything more than 200 is more than enough for me, same goes with text, 100 is pretty enough. So just want to find the cheapest package possible with a 12 months contract.0 -
One more thing, I don't really care which network it's with either, but can't have orange as I'm leaving orange now, and they can't port an orange no to orange( I don't know why)0

The £75 deposit request happened to me yesterday as well. Like Christal I think I have a good credit rating, always pay my credit cards off in full every month etc and never had any problems ever before. I too decided not to go ahead with the offer. But as I checked through the MSE site for any help on this, it appears even if you have a clear credit record, but have applied for new credit cards or phones by Direct Debit etc within a short time span so that the credit rating agencies are having a flurry of checks being asked for on your name this may, for some reason, send up a red flag to them and you are refused or loaded with a refundable deposit. This could be my problem since I bought a phone for my wife last month and we applied for new credit cards last week, all which went through smoothly but perhaps this flurry of activity this 4 weeks sent up a red flag.
Anyhow I have sent my £2 of to the credit agency to get a copy of my credit rating to make sure there is no mistakes.
I confess that never having any credit problems before it threw me to be refused. It seems that the agencies can at times be quite arbitrary.“Having, first, gained all you can, and, secondly saved all you can, then give all you can"....John Wesley

O.k Christal
The best one I've found upto know is on Virgin, Free phone, 200 any network mins and 300 texts. 12 Month Contract at £30 Per Month with 5 months reduced to £0.99 which works out at £17.91 per month. Thisa is from !!!!!!0 -
Well grace2much, I will understand it if like you said, I have applied anything in the last month or 2 which may effect my credit, but my last credit card was applied in Aug 2006! And I really don't have any new application made recently! that's why I don't get it, but anyway......
Thanks Jaymarsh, I will go to check it up now, but since just got credit checked for nothing this week, I will now have to wait for at least another week before I make a new application, but this information is really helpfuly.
BTW, how did you find out about this deal? As I do go to a mobile phone comparison website almost everyday!0 -
Ok Jaymarsh, Now I know why, they one you found is a "Clearance" phone which is not 100% new phone, I guess the website you use is the moneysupermarket or one compare? I can find even cheaper Clearance deal on N73 for £15 per month...............but I really want a new one...0
