I will believe that companies can charge whatever they want the day I see a tin of beans sold for 100000.
If companies could have charged whatever they wanted, there would have been a 100000 tin of baked beans by now.
Thus the statement " Private companies can charge whatever they want " does not stand.
illogicality_alert. I can do all sorts of legal but stupid things... wear my shoes on the wrong feet, sew every single one of my pairs of trouser legs together to give me an attractive single 'mermaid' leg, staple my eyelids shut....
The fact that I've never done these things merely tells us they're stupid things to do, not that I can't."Growth for growth's sake is the ideology of the cancer cell" - Edward Abbey.0 -
Logic is not your strong point is it dfh2012?
I am going to employ mine and stop responding to your illogical troll posts.Thinking critically since 1996....0 -

They could if they wanted to! They simply choose not to, because it doesn't make economical sense.
You can jump off a cliff. Just because you choose not to doesn't mean you can't!0 -

Legal but stupid things sure ,but not illegal.
If I did stupid things like smashing a neighbour's window, smacked a random stranger, the police would be at my doorstep.
Thus a blanket statement that I can do whatever I want does not stand. If we could indeed do whatever we wanted to, there would be no need to rules and regulations. The whole world would descent into chaos.
Well, strictly speaking, you can do what you like. You just have to accept the penalties for any actions that are deemed illegal/immoral/socially unacceptable etc.
Having said that, the argument on this particular thread did pertain to legality, with most of us merely arguing that a shop can legally charge what they want. No one's arguing that it wouldn't be stupid to try to charge £1M for a tin of beans and would agree that this doesn't happen because shops are aware that it would be pointless."Growth for growth's sake is the ideology of the cancer cell" - Edward Abbey.0 -
