the way prices are going, i am seriously thinking of killing our own this year...

couldnt do it with the ones we have at mo.... ( hybred layers etc) but am seriously thinking of getting some utility breeds.... light sussex eggs and rearing the cockerels for the table....

It will be hard for the first few times... but will soon get used to it....

Well done, we all have other people killing the animals we eat, and then complain when someone like Jamie Oliver shows it on telly....
Much better eating animal that have been reared naturally and had a good life, than those that had a miserable life...
Just make sure they are killed humanely.

are frozen breasts as good as using fresh ones? ive never used frozen ones but would like to,do you cook them from frozen?

e use them a lot and find them no different, I often roast them to make a midweek roast dinner my teen lads always so how nice they are. I cook from frozen with no problems.
hubby has just taken me to aldi.
they are doing 1k packs of chicken breasts for 6.99.
thats the best deal i have found in ages.

That's the same as lidl albeit in the past year they have gone up a £1 a pack they are still good value.
Sainsburys have frozen chicken fillets reduced at the moment.

Some frozen chicken breast has added water. Eg. Chicken content: Sainsbury’s = 100% Tesco Market value = 82% ASDA Chicken Breast Fillets = 87% and Asda Smart Price = 82%. Aldi do one type with no added water and have recently added an economy range as well with added water.

Just remembered - don't know if this is true, but I have read in more than one place that Farmfoods chicken, as well as some others (Tesco was mentioned), comes from Thailand. I have looked at the bags of chicken in Farmfoods and could not see any info about country of origin. Not sure why really, but it's put me off using it. I think all information regarding the sourcing of food should be on the packaging.

I'm not sure they can use whatever unit they choose, according to information I found, like this:
    http://www.u.tv/news/Supermarkets-confuse-consumers-with-product-pricing/ab5863de-ec33-4425-a302-b059ae3dfe49

    Maybe you have different information?

Yes, any laws regarding food labelling only apply to food labelling. i.e. the label that is stuck on the packaging and the shelf price label. It has nothing to do with a web page that is advertising the products and telling how much you will be charged when you reach the checkout.

Even so, I suspect the actual labels on the meat will be exempt as they are selling from bulk.
I would say that whatever the law says I'm not sure I want to buy from a company that for whatever reason feels the need to use pricing that is confusing and not transparent.
What else are they hiding? Are they finding ways round food hygiene and H&S laws? (not saying they are, just my perception of them as a company)

I don't think they are trying to hide anything, or fool anyone. Judging by the site, the large amounts you have to buy and the Restaurant Testimonials, I would say they aim to sell to those concerned about portion price.

They may also sell to the general public, but if you buy from them you have to go by the price most of their customers prefer. And that a price per serving.

Oh blimey, I DREAD to think how those chickens have been raised to provide meat at £3.98 per Kilo.

I know we all have to watch our pennies, but didn't the programmes that Hugh and Jamie ran a couple of years ago make any impression on you at all? If you need a reminder, take a look here http://www.chickenout.tv/supporter-showcase/42-hugh-fearnley-whittingstall.html

Honestly, I'm not a tree hugger, I understand that animals are raised for meat - and believe me, I'm a dedicated carnivor - but I would rather eat beans on toast 3 times a week and pay more for my meat (of all kinds), than always buy the cheapest, encouraging very intensive factory farming techniques .

Have you not even thought about the growth supplements that are used to get the birds to slaughtering size in record time, which reduces the raising costs?? There is no knowing what that does to OUR long-term health.
I try not to get too stressed out on the forum. I won't argue, i'll just leave a thread if you don't like what I say. :)

    Hi Everyone,

I own a butchers shop in Boston Lincs, and sell online.

I sell both on ebay and my own website

I am currently selling 10kg fresh chicken fillets on ebay for £59 + 8.95 shipping.

However, I only charge shipping on my ebay listings to cover the fees.

If you wished to purchase the chicken fillets directly, then PM me and it would only cost you £59 / £5.90kg inc courier delivery.

You can also find my business on my new facebook page where I will be listing special offers through the year.

I hope this helps in your quest for good value quality meat.

    Happy New Year

spamming is not allowed, you need to seek permission before you post links to your website, otherwise everybody would be doing this and the forum would just be a big advertising board...

also your website does not give the address of your company, does not mention dsr, no t&c, complying with various legal requirements.
not sure you can refuse to refund if someone is not home when they attempt delivery, you'd better check dsr etc.
