there is vat on certain food products.
so to cover my butt so to speak, this is why i said about the vat..
I have chickens breasts that i bought on christmas eve reduced to 50p a pack of two, so once i have sued them up, i think i will buy a pack in booker's..Work to live= not live to work0 -
We get our chicken from waitrose, ideal for making meals when they are all individually wrapped.
Must admit we get all of our meat from waitrose - okay we pay a little bit more but their meat always seems the best taste with the less waste. Thanks to advice from people here I am debt free - thank you to you all! Now working on the mortgage!0 -

No, they only have to give the price per unit, they can decide what the unit is. If you dig deeper into the site it says a serving is 227g. That was for the chicken breasts, it might be different for other meat products.
So it's near enough 5kg for £32.50. Plus delivery.0 -

I'm a great fan of waitrose and buy meat from there too, but I must admit that once I was cooking half fillets from them and half from another brand (S's or Co-op, but probably S's), and once I took them out of the wrapping I could not tell the difference. Even when I cook I can never tell which ones I'm using if I forget to look when I get them out in a hurry.
Must say I was disappointed as I love their food, and still buy their chicken when it's on offer.0 -

I'm not sure they can use whatever unit they choose, according to information I found, like this:
http://www.u.tv/news/Supermarkets-confuse-consumers-with-product-pricing/ab5863de-ec33-4425-a302-b059ae3dfe49
Maybe you have different information?
I would say that whatever the law says I'm not sure I want to buy from a company that for whatever reason feels the need to use pricing that is confusing and not transparent.
What else are they hiding? Are they finding ways round food hygiene and H&S laws? (not saying they are, just my perception of them as a company)0 -
I have never bought chicken breasts on their own as I would rather buy a complete chicken and cook it in the SC overnight and the meat just falls off the bones and the stock is wonderful as a base for soup.I have just cooked a fresh 1.7kg chicken last Thursday and from that I had five sandwiches four dinners and six pasta single portion based dinners for the freezerThat's 15 meals for a fiver plus I will make one and a half litres of chunky vegatable soup at least from my chicken stock which shoulld do me for six lunches with maybe some fruit or a yoghurt to follow.0

why don't they give price per kg though? I thought that would be a legal requirement. it just makes things a bit more difficult to compare. Price per serving is a gimmick.
Might give it a go tough, thanks.
As someone else mentioned earlier, they do give the weight in the more information. The thing with these is the quality. I too used to buy farm foods but they do contain a lot of water as do a lot of the other makes, I havent found this with Westin. I think the reason they price per serving as they supply to a lot of caterers and they need to know a price per portion.Mortgage, we're getting there with the end in sight £6587 07/23, otherwise free of the debt thanks to MSE help!0 -
