Chicken breasts price comparison

As other people have been posting various deals, I've been looking at prices more in depth (I mainly buy breasts, or diced).
Here's the price comparison for chicken breasts.

Waitrose on offer (£7.52 kg), Tesco Market Value (£7.39), Asda (£.7.37) or S's Basic (£7.41)
The cooperative have a half price offer 540g for £3.75, that is £6.95 kg (although I doubt they were selling them at full price, who would pay nearly £14 kg?)

Cooperative and S’s: 410g (£8.13 kg)

However Asda is 470g (£7.09 kg)


RESULTS:
Cheaper is currently the co-op, although the inflated full price puts me off.
Cheaper full price is Asda, but I don't have one near me.
Waitrose offers good value in my opinion, in terms of quality and convenience (they are freezer-ready bagged fillets).

Chicken breast prices have gone pretty high of late.
keep an eye out for when Lidl have them half-price on their "Half Price Weeknds". Problem is though, chicken breasts are very, very popular when this offer is on and the get "snatched" very, very quickly - you need to get to Lidl very early when they run this offer - hopefully soon.

are frozen breasts as good as using fresh ones? ive never used frozen ones but would like to,do you cook them from frozen?

I only tried frozen chicken once, from S's (my rule in money-saving is to try everything once before rejecting the idea).
It smelt so badly that even my cat refused to eat it, the whole flat smelt of dead animals, since then I've stayed away from any type of frozen chicken.
I suppose if you use it for something like a curry.... you could put anything in a curry and nobody would know the difference...:eek:

PS don't cook meat from frozen, it may not reach a high enough temperature inside to kill al bacteria etc.
I always freeze fresh breasts, if they are not fully defrosted I use the mw, or I cut them in small pieces and cook (only if it something that would cook for a long time an reach high temperatures, like a stew, but not with a slow cooker)

I use frozen breasts all the time as they're much cheaper (£4.49/kg for Mr T value) than buying fresh unless the latter are on a really good offer. They have been exactly the same as fresh once defrosted every time for me, maybe the PP had a bad batch?

I wouldn't cook them from frozen.

If you dont mind buying lots together, try Westin Gourmet online butchers. Their meat is superb and although initially it seems costly it isnt. Their chicken breast fillets work out at £6.50 per kilo and will be a far better quality. Their bacon is gorgeous and my favourite at the moment and works out at nearly half the price of Mrs T's better quality stuff.

looks interesting this westin gourmet.
why don't they give price per kg though? I thought that would be a legal requirement. it just makes things a bit more difficult to compare. Price per serving is a gimmick.

Don't forget Farmfoods frozen chicken breasts. 2x1kg for £8. £4 per kg is very good value.

It's the only place I buy bacon too. 54 rashers for £6.

I have just come back from booker's

and they have 5kgs fresh chicken breasts for £19.99

a guy in front of me was buying 3 packs... i asked him how many where in the pack, and he said approx 15 - 20

so it works out approx £3.98 a kg, dont thin there was any vat on them

hubby has just taken me to aldi.
they are doing 1k packs of chicken breasts for 6.99.
thats the best deal i have found in ages.
the 3 for 10 at asda are 400gram packs, so 1.2 kg for 10 is not as good.

checking everything on my supermarket before i buy anything, and then with vouchers if i can find them. more money in me pocket with a bit of luck...!:T
