Hi, this is the Daily Thread for Saturday 7th January. This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or slow internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred.

When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” type start does just as well.

Morning all
Hubby is in bed sleeping off the exesses of yesterday, I'm sat here with porridge & a cuppa.
Today my DS is bringing over DD's spare rotary line as mine snapped yesterday, he is then taking hubby to the local timber merchants to get a length of timber to finish off the newest raised bed. I can't get it in my car but DS has a huge 4x4 truck that is used for recovery jobs.
I'm hoping to spend some time in my sewing room, just clearing it out, but it depends on whether hubby is doing stuff in the garden that needs my help or not, I can't complain if he does need help as he keeps us supplied with veg, including potatoes, for at least half the year and he'll be fixing my washing line too.
I have enough wool to knit one more soap sack, the problem is that most of my yarn is odd, unbanded, part balls, & I need either pure wool or part wool to knit the sacks from, now I know how to tell pure cotton from poly cotton with fabric, is there an easy way to tell which yarn has pure wool in it?
Time I had another cuppa.
Have a good day everyone.
Hugs Hester

    Morning :hello:

Morrisons was good for offers yesterday, I picked up quite a few things but the only one I can remember atm is their value pasta - 2 x 500g for 50p.

Visiting mum and dad was fab, it was like a big jumble sale but very neat and tidy, no-one elbowing you out of their way and the stuff was decent and free. Nothing like a jumble sale at all then really :D I came home with tealight holders, Christmas decorations, material, cane chairs, a pair of boots (very dark green, almost black - I hate the wooden-look heel but I'll try and dye it), books, jigsaws and other stuff I can't remember. Oh and the funniest but I couldn't resist - a ZX Spectrum :rotfl:

We're doing a bit of DIY today, putting some shelves in the hall cupboard and utility room. The garden needs a good tidying too but neither of us can be bothered. We'll see how we feel later.

Good Morning Hester, Tru and all to follow

The weekend at last :j although I must admit the week did go quickly.

Todays plans - put some washing in, take DS to footie training then on to little town to have a little mooch. Want to pop into M&S as I think they have their 3 meats for a tenner offer on.

OH is taking DS to watch Southend play later so I will clear the ironing pile then.

Want to Tesco's with my £40 giftcard yesterday, spent substantially more :o but everything I got was on some sort of offer and the freezer is quite full.

Lasagne tonight so will get that made this morning.

    Have a great day all.x

    morning everyone.
Not much happening here. H laid bedroom carpet yesterday so the afternoon was spent putting everything back to normality and "decluttering". Wish I had never started, just seems to create more mess and more stuff to deal with, either find a new home with or have it hanging around before it heads off to the tip or CS <sigh>
Still am trying to think of it as early spring cleaning. Stripped our bed entirely so valance sheet, mattress protector have all gone for washing too. I have a mountain of washing and am struggling to dry it. hung it on the line yesterday (although because the sun is so low at the moment the garden doesn't get at much sun as the summer) and it didn't get it all dry. weather not looking too promising so no doubt will be hanging all around the house.
Off to local town this morning, NEED a new calendar, am flatlining without one, some makeup, suede protector for my new boots and probably a shed load of other assorted items Ive forgotten bout :o
Tea will be HM pizza, might make me and H a chicken burger with wedges.

hugs and spoons all round xxx

Hester, wool doesn't burn, so you could try singeing the end with a lighter, if it melts with black smoke it has something man made in.

I'm still in bed :o but am seriously thinking about geting up :D Had to take most of a beautiful old sycamore down yesterday, it was at least 50 foot tall and my bro and I used to play in it as kids. So going to help OH clear up the mess and chainsaw and store the wood for seasoning this morning.

Also going to get a giant bag of tomatoes out the freezer and de-skin them then make a giant vat of tomato sauce for the freezer. Then plan to make a lasagne with it too.

Ok, Ok, I'm getting up now... Have a good day all ;)

    Morning all.

Got to Scotland at about 3am. feeling surprisingly fresh. Mum seems okay, not seen gran yet. The house is full of cards and flowers.

Had a good chat with OH last night , we both agreed we feel ready to take the next step and actually get married next year. Will discuss dates when I'm back.

Plan to go to Glasgow today to spend my jl vouchers, shopping cheers me up and this way its basically free.

    Good morning,

The house elf has a friend coming to play today, so they will talk to each other and I will be able to get on with things. I need to sort out the bookcase in our sitting room. I'm going to put away the baby books that the elf wants to keep (there's some his daddy used to read to him) and then the rest can be passed on. It's looking very dark and gloomy outside so I don't think we'll be going out anywhere.

The friend that is coming to play is a big cookie fan so I've promised to make some millie's cookies. I'll probably do some fairy cakes while I'm at it. I've also washed the pan from my bread maker and will be making some brown bread for me.

Not much else to report except that I downloaded Amazon's free ereader to my laptop last night and some free books. It works very well.

    Take care all of you

I was MIA yday (I think, I may have posted whilst in work! :rotfl:). Had very busy day in work, recruiting for my new group of work kisd starting Tuesday. I only have 10 kids, should have 13 but I prefer smaller groups! May get one or 2 late starters next week.

Then last night I had another date with my man :D He came over mine after work and we got a curry from the Asda takeaway counter and watched a DVD. Had a lovely evening :smileyhea

Plans for today - meeting girls for lunch and shopping, then need to pop to parents to pick up some stuff. Then I'm going to the rugby tonight, not my team but I got 4 free tickets from work so me and the girls are going (and will cheer for the other side!)

OS wise - not much needs doing TBH, may take recycling to the tip (can't wait til I move and the blooming council will collect the recycling!), may pack a few more boxes.

    Have a fab day all

What fab news Bramble, I'm really pleased for you both. Thinking of you just now and hoping that all goes as well as it possibly can for you all.
I think it's to be sunny here today so planning a longer walk with the younger dog so I can get a good blast of sun. I went back to work on Thurs after nearly 3 weeks off and really struggled on the first afternoon - sooo tired. Yesterday i went out for a walk at lunchtime with a colleague and that really perked me up. She said that in a mental health training day they had been told that if you do nothing else, at least get out of the work building at lunchtime to get some fresh air as it really helps with maintain mental health. Will try to do that every day. I also bought a pot of mini daffs and have them on my windowsill here at home.
Ok, off for quick browse while I have 2nd cup of tea then out with dogs. luckily they are nice and lazy on weekend mornings!
    Have a good day all
