OK it's fairly obvious you're trolling if you think I've just made up Godwin's law because I'm a "Socialist" (i'm not btw).

No what is blindingly obvious is anyone who says something bad about the BBC TV Licence here gets the usual BBC "people" coming out with all kinds of lies to defend it.

Also trying to pretend Goodwin and his Socialist friends history didn't happen is disgusting.

I demand you contribute towards my cable TV.................no only lidding but that's basically want you want everyone to do with regard to the BBC.

I've only just seen this thread and haven't read it all so forgive me if my point has already been covered.

The title of the post seems to be asking whether the TV licence is value for money (is it worth it?), whereas the post itself is asking a totally different question.

If you're really asking whether the licence is worth it - only you can decide. Personally I do - when I think of programmes (on the BBC) like QI, Mock The Week, Match Of The Day, Wimbledon, Six Nations rugby, Euros/World Cup, documentaries (Attenborough, Cox), some excellent stuff on BBC Four, and many more. That's just me - YMMV.

I've experienced TV in other countries, and I think ours (despite the crap reality stuff that's on these days) is by far the best. I don't know if it would be without the licence fee.

    Programming is a personal choice

If the BBC is as good as some people make out then it would do just fine under a voluntary subscription system, it could grow even bigger...............................or it could sink with a reality check

    That's why I said YMMV.

and how do you propose that works, then - encryption, special receivers, cards? You don't work for Sky, do you?

It's quite simple my dear Watson, the subcriber gets a STB like Cable & Sky already do. They could also subscribe via TopUpTV

No I don't work for Sky, Cable, Newspapers or any media organisation. I just don't like being threatened, harassed and intimidated by your Socialist pals at the BBC.

Perhaps you'd like to be harassed by Sky & Cable ?

ok, I just canceled the TV license over the phone, although I have been told that I can keep watching the TV until 30 sept 2012 when my already paid in advance license will expire.
Since I do no trust the customer care operator I will pull out my areal cable anyway :)

As you pay monthly - you haven't paid in advance. Read your payment plan! You need to continue paying until at least March to cover the existing license.

    I am absolutely positive.

You've asked the same question several times ..... and all the answers have been the same. Read back through the thread?
