It would still be excellent value if it was a voluntary subscription. People would then have the choice and you could still be in love with all those "excellent" services I do not use.

I do get harassed, threatened and intimidated by the BBC though because I don't pay them. Tell me how would you feel if someone came to your door demanding you help fund Satellite or Cable even if you don't use them?

I personally would prefer Cable over the BBC because I get more for my money including a phoneline but then I'm an old fashioned freedom of choise person
But that *is* my freedom of choice ;)

If you read the thread, you will notice others choose *not* to pay it (although some still use services such as Iplayer which is funded by people such as myself who do choose to pay it).

I dislike commercial TV simply because I do not like being bombarded with advertisements, or in the case of the likes of Sky begging bowls and advertisements. Same with commercial radio.

    Each to their own :)

Ah the old we don't like right-wing so right-wingers must fund our left-wing propaganda.

We'll keep calling it a "Public Service Broadcaster" too even though there is nothing PSB about it.

I knew a dear elderly couple who used to call the BBC "the Conservative Broadcasting Corporation"; when you annoy both the left & the right, you've probably got it right.
And believing in good public services didn't used to be left-wing either - until recently it was a mainstream point-of-view.

It's a receiving device i.e. an aerial that you need the licence for - not the TV

If you have a means of receiving programmes (even if you never use it) you have to have a licence or an excemption certificate

Well the BBC posse say you have a choice but paying for your BBC or go without all the genuine FTA channels isn't really a choice in my book.

But I'm not forcing you to subscribe to commercial channels so why do you wish to force an entire country fund your beloved BBC ?

Also I'll let you into a little seceret, get a PVR and speed through the ads ;)

Well at least the BBC admit to it now

Again, it was created as a means of funding the mighty BBC and nothing more. Private companies now own the transmitters and pay huge sums to do so.................in other words its already covered

Complete and utter rubbish but as we've seen before the BBC needs to use lies to justify itself.

You can own a television without the need to fund the BBC
What if I only use a TV to watch videos/DVDs/as a monitor for my games console? Do I still need a licence?

You do not need a TV Licence if you only use your TV to watch videos and DVDs or as a monitor for your games console.

I hate it the way American spelling is taking over. Or are some posters here American?
The noun LICENCE does not not have an 's' in it ;)

Not really while people are being forced to fund it. This is the 21st century so time for the stabilisers to be taken off your bike and then you can go it alone ;)

I've noticed that too. Funny how those who do it are for forcing an entire country to subsidise Eastenders for them while Americans have no such system....................far better television though :)

If you do not watch live TV you do not need to pay these "people". The movies you stream are not live feeds so do not require a BBC TV Licence.

These people here can help you deal with the BBC "people"

Its not a "BBC TV Licence". Just a TV Licence required by the Government as a way of funding the BBC as a public service free to air broadcast. The BBC do not collect the fee or issue the licence, they merely use the funds collected by the licence.
