Im a 6"2 20 stone former rugby player. I had 3 1980's Nissan Micras (the old square ones), have had 2 307's (on lease, dont judge me), a VW Bora, Honda Accord and now have a 2004 Honda Civic. No problem with room in any of them. The civic is MASSIVE inside, I can sit myself behind my seat with inches to spare on leg and head room.
At the gym I used from 1998-2004, the owner was a professional competing body builder, he was the biggest guy I have ever seen and he drove a 1998 Nissan Micra.
But to answer the OP, your son would be financially better off buying a larger car. Small car V large car of the same year, the smaller car will typically sell at a premium, he'll never spend the difference in price on fuel. The insuirance will also be up in "boy racer" category, making very little difference between them.“I may not agree with you, but I will defend to the death your right to make an a** of yourself.”

When I was an apprentice the foreman who was about 20 stone used to belt around in a 1936 Austin 7 . The car had to have the drivers seat taken out and welded back together every few months but otherwise just kept rattling on.You scullion! You rampallian! You fustilarian!
