What rescues have you tried? Is it a breed rescue or all breed rescue? Maybe an all breed rescue that has a beagle may be more lenient? I assume the breed rescues are so strict as they know a lot more about the breed due to their speciality which is a good thing! but also annoying if one of the requirements is based on their personal belief...
The one I approached was an all breed rescue which was local to me. I have looked at a beagle rescue website but they seem to have older dogs as opposed to a pup which I applied for - I know older dogs have a harder time in being adopted and have nothing against them per se but I thought if we had a pup then at least Spot would accept it more easily.
Alot of the rescue centres I've looked at seem to have this thing about existing pets being neutered - which I could understand if it was a dog/ b!tch thing but when you're looking specifically at dogs it does make you wonder why.
I can understand why rescues want to make sure that the dogs they rehome go to loving homes but I can't help but feel that alot of people are being rejected by these rescues who are then simply turning to breeders as its alot less hassle.
One_Person - haven't restricted myself to one rescue, I just applied to one and got turned down but I am looking at other local ones as well2014 Target;

First off... the OP hasn't given any valid reason why they should put their dog out to stud & this comment "i just thought it was fair to the dog to let him have his natural instinct fullfilled!" probably sums up why they shouldn't. A complete lack of understanding.
Secondly, Rescues/shelters: I have nothing but the highest admiration for anyone who puts time & effort into the welfare of unwanted pets. The same goes for the people who are willing to adopt.
What I do find annoying is that the rescue/shelter route is literally rammed down the throat of anyone looking for a puppy.
Some people actually want a puppy (me), some people actually want a specific breed (me) & some people don't want all the hassle of trying to adopt a dog from these places. It's like trying to join the masons.
This beauty is from DDB welfare http://www.ddbwelfare.org.uk/forms/adoption.pdf & that's just the start of the process! God knows what comes next.
This is to adopt a dog I don't know, whos temperament I don't know & whos behavioural problems (if any) I don't know & we haven't got to the "donation" bit yet... that's if I'm "worthy"
If I want a puppy however I have a local, reputable breeder of DDBs where I can go & see the parents, discuss any issues I might have & come home with a dog I can train to be how I want it to be.
I do understand that shelters must try to make sure that any rehoming is a success but is making us jump through hoops the way to go? It's got to be made easier.
Just to add... before xmas my OH had some old horse rugs she didn't want & rather than take them to the tip decided to ask the main local shelter if they would be any use. Yes they said but you will have to wash them first! Gift horse & mouth springs to mind.
Instead we found a small independent who almost ripped our arms off with the comment "we can't get enough"... go figure.
Finally (honest): krlyr made a valid point on the first page of this thread.
If we take some of the comments on this thread to the nth degree (not going to happen I'll admit) everyone would adopt, no-one would buy puppies & all dogs would be neutered.
Sounds like utopia? Maybe now.
What would we do in 15 years time?Always try to be at least half the person your dog thinks you are!0 -

Well, its obviously not going to happen is it? No point getting into silly hypotheticals.0 -
we wouldnt be considered for a rescue dog although we did try to take in a ddb that wanted rehoming a few months back but we were deemed as unsuitable as we had to many dogs
we have six dogs and live in a big house with a massive garden well fenced in both front and back and plenty of space
2 massive outdoor kennals seperate areas to feed them in and they have there own room in the house as well they are walked every day rain shine or snow and are much loved members of the family
We have douge de boredeaux and bullmastiffs 2 are puppies the rest of private buys /rehomed one from newpapers
dh is self empoyed and dose all the training walking feeding of the dogs
all our dogs are micro chipped, insured for lifetime policys and the older 3 male dogs are castrated,
we have no intention of breeding but we love the ddb breed adn would love to have more and we know that we could easily take in another two dogs that need a good loving home for life with responsible owners but were deemed unsuitable even though we are experience large breed owners and have no problem intergrating new dogs with our dogs
so rather than being able to give a dog that really needs a good caring forever home with other dogs we have to buy them if we want more dogs ( which i do later on this year)0
