thinking of studding out my yorkie

this was no way a money making thing for me, yorkies are adorable! and are very expensive...i have never seen a my yorkie is the best natured dog around no problems what so ever, i just thought it was fair to the dog to let him have his natural instinct fullfilled! i have never seen quote (some muppet in a stained tracksuit going 'I've got a little girl that you could put your little boy with if you want an' we can have I can make lots of money from ickle puppies) walking a yorkie TBH
Well, fairly obviously, or you wouldn't be asking on here how to facilitate a backyard breeding setup. Which would make the owner of the female the one with the money, not you.
If you're worried about him wanting to mate, get him castrated. He's fully grown, he doesn't need them, he'll be able to relax and enjoy life even more and you won't be anthropormorphising him into the life of a ladies' man when he is just a dog from a breed that has enough problems even when skilled breeders take charge.
Or phone up the nearest breeder/secretary of the breed club and see what they say. I would be - surprised - if they accept your offer, though.I could dream to wide extremes, I could do or die: I could yawn and be withdrawn and watch the world go by.Yup you are officially Rock n Roll0 -

Why not get a kitten from a shelter too? Gawd knows, there's heaps of them that need homes. Cats are actually a bigger problem, numbers-wise, than dogs are!
I just can't get my head around people going to breeders when there's thousands upon thousands of animals in need of homes in shelters up and down the country. But instead, people buy from breeders, and just encourage the problem.0 -
Myrtle77 - you may not be aware of most "shelters" rehoming policies, hardly anyone qualifies.
I for example never did so my dog and all my cats are gumtree babies.
And believe me I have tried to get dog/cats from rescues.
But was refused by every single one that I have contacted.0 -
I'm aware of the policies of around 20 shelters. Lots of people qualify, but yes, they do have protocols to follow and inevitably their standards aren't always met even by those who would like to offer loving homes. Sometimes it's not the people, but the location that's not ideal.
I'm concerned that you've mentioned gumtree though. As they're the most used website for puppy farms and backyard breeders: https://www.facebook.com/pages/Get-Gumtree-Animal-Free/2167163450247830 -

Hardly anyone? Then why are nearly all the dogs I know rescue dogs?!
If I can get a dog from a rescue, anyone can. It just took me a long time and lots of searching and phone calls!
Gumtree is about the worst place to get an animal from, barring down the pub off a bloke.0 -
Gettingready, do you mind if I ask . . . what reasons were you given for being rejected by every single shelter?0

1) Live in a flat
2) Was working0 -
Thanks for the reply gettingready. It does explain things though, and please don't take offence, but those aren't ideal conditions for a pet to be rehomed to. Although obviously it depends on the pet in question.0

Not for me it was not....
Saw Zara and brought her home the same day - over 5 years ago now.
Got 4 cats within one weekend.
All happy, well looked after and would not have it any other way...
Pls not not jump on the "take on a rescue" route, honestly I have tried but just simply gave up after a while...as was made feel like the worst possible prospective dog owner/cat slave.
Got my lot now anyway0 -

Not just the pet but also on individual and ... ah.. never mind, too late for me to go into the "are they better off in cages for months/years?" mode....0
