Going by what you have said, it will be the full cost of a new provide, which from Wednesday will be £99.99.

You could always ask the previous owner if they would be willing to cover the cost, if you have just bought the property.

Sorry this is incorrect, there would be no charge! Explain to the advisor that the wiring is not in tact, and no charges will apply. A connection fee is only raise if the routing has been totally removed (ceased and recovered) or a full connection is needed, charges would also apply if you require the engineer to relocate the socket, from its original location.

  • if records show evidence of previous service that's the end of it straight away .bt do not charge for re-instating the wiring. the only factor is evidence of previous service. one full installation charge per property. as the above poster said if they want the main socket relocating then a shift charge would apply but basic reinstatement is free on provision work.

But in this case the box has been removed with the wire cut, this would be classed as vandelism, thus connection charge would apply. Similar to if a phone wire is accidently cut (i.e wire cut whilst double glazing being fitted) would incur timescale charges to be repaired.
If saved £2710 and only spent the interest (Based on a return of 5%), you would have enough money to pay your TV Licence every year. Saving you £7452.50 over a period of 55 years, based on you buying a license from the age of 20 until your 75 at a cost of £135.50.
  • I just copied this from the BT website:

Connecting a new residential phone line
The connection charge is £74.99*. However, if you are a new customer and your new home is already connected to BT from the previous occupiers, this charge is not likely to apply.

New customers - Taking over an existing BT phone line
If you take over an existing BT phone line, there is no charge.

If your household was previously connected to BT and you are out of your 12 month contract, we will reconnect a BT phone line completely free. If damage has occurred to your BT line or socket, charges will apply. Customers who have been disconnected for non payment of a BT bill will be charged £35.25 for reconnection. Charges apply to reconnect from a previous Home Highway line. Terms and conditions apply.

I have never came across any orders where customers have been charged, where the property has been severed in the past, but the equipment is damaged. Although the website says "charges will apply", in reality this does not happen. I think the charging policy mostly applies to external damage, rather than internal.

If the original poster is concered over paying, then email me, I'll supply my ein, and if the charges are raised, which they won't be, then i'll refund you, for advising you incorrectly.

what you have to remeber is that in this case its not just the equipment is damaged, but that the box has been removed.

Might have to start a new thread for this, as this subject could roll on and on.

I'm confident that charges won't be raised! When I moved in to my property, we had removed the bt socket, for decorating purposes. Eng called and fitted new NTE and no charges were raised. Starts and provides are subject to survey, so in reality, charges could be raised, but I've never seen BT enforce this!

  • it all comes down to the wiring report.

if that 001 is there then free conection, otherwise full charges.

the important wording here is 'household' not property ...this would apply to someone who has lived at the property left bt and now gone back to bt service ....again it would be hard for charges to be raised as the engineer would have no prior knowledge of the properties history.

faults and provision work are treated completely differently.
