I would suggest that you don't spend loads on buying everything frozen in one go - try a few things and see what you like. I don't mind frozen broccoli and cauli, but my OH hates it - the texture is a bit different to fresh. I do use frozen spinach, broad beans, peas and sprouts these days though, as it is so much more convenient, and I don't have to cook something I don't fancy just because it is going limp at the bottom of the fridge. I also like frozen mash and cauli cheese for quick, easy meals during the week.
I suggest trying one 'single' veg and a mixed veg to start with, topped up with fresh veg. Next time, if those are ok get them again, plus one or two new ones to try. You will soon figure out what you like and what you don't. I also suggest you don't tell the kids it is frozen, and see if they notice the difference - in my experience kids can be funny about changes to food, even if the difference is only slight. The beautiful thing about learning is nobody can take it away from you.
Thanks to everyone who contributes to this wonderful forum. I'm very grateful for the guidance and friendliness that I always receive from you.

I mainly use frozen veg since I made the swap over a year ago! I find mushrooms can shrink and leak water but are great for spag bol and Lasagna but not with your fry-up! Farmfoods do leeks which I highly recommend as it's so much cheaper. Mixed veg, sweetcorn, peppers, broccoli, cauliflower, peas and carrots are all fine.
If I am doing a stew I buy a fresh 'stew pack' only because I hate the frozen packs (they have celery in them!!!)
I use frozen veg for pies, curries, spag bol, lasagne, casseroles... just throw it all in and let it cook!
I've not had a problem with excess water (apart from mushrooms) and the only fresh veg I buy is for the Rabbits... and I always buy onions and potatoes fresh. We spend money we don't have, on things that we don't need, to impress people we don't like. I don't and I'm happy! Mortgage Free Wannabe :dance:Overpayments Made: £5400 - Interest Saved: £11,550 - Months Saved: 240 -
I had this argument with my OH. He likes fresh veg, I prefer frozen. The only veg that is REALLY fresh is if you grow your own. Picking it in the garden and then cooking it is fine. I agree on mushrooms, use fresh but everything else I use is frozen. I got two cabbages last week from Asda reduced to 10p each! They were cut, blanched and frozen. Had some last night, no problems. All my extra veg from this summer's growth was frozen. Having my own runner beans with Xmas lunch.
You can't obviously freeze salad items, and tomatoes are only good for cooking after freezing, but otherwise use frozen.I Believe in saving money!!!:T

do check that the actually are cheaper - frozen carrots cost £1 a kilo - fresh 50p in aldi.
I do use some frozen veg - peas, sweetcorn, broad beans, edamame and leaf spinach but find all the others soggy.People seem not to see that their opinion of the world is also a confession of character.

Cleggie have you tried freezing fresh veg that has been on offer?
I buy Aldi's super 6 or get stuff from my local farmshopchop & freeze the veg.
I've got bags of carrot, celery, leek, onion, cauliflower much cheaper than buying frozen.Try to be a rainbow in someone's cloud.0 -
Hi guys.
just to let you know that i have been buying the frozen, and its saved me about £6 a week! I had forgotten how nice frozen veg is- i had gotten into the mindset that any veg (apart from fresh) is horrid, and now i know thats not true.
As well as saving money due to frozen being cheaper to buy, i am also saving money as i dont waste any due to having it in the fridge for ages and then it going bad!0 -

Thanks guys.
The only thing i am finding a bit annoying is how thinly the sliced peppers are sliced.
Does anyone know anywhere that does chunky frozen peppers instead of thinly sliced ones?
If not, i'll just buy a big bag of fresh value ones and chop them and freeze them myself, but i just want to check first.0
