Just a little update. My friend is coming home today. Baby and husband still in hospital. Baby has had a blood transfusion and is a little fighter. They have called him Sebastian.

That's fabulous news, welcome to the world Sebastian, keep fighting little one. :D

    Happy moneysaving all.
  • ask her..........

ask her what you can do for her and say that you really want to help.... dont take no for an answer as sometimes people say they are fine and dont want anything when really they are crying out inside.....

offer practical help... ask other friends too.... lifts, shopping, baking and meals, etc..

I had our little boy at 29 weeks, and he spent the following 11 weeks in hospital. I had a c/section, so couldn't drive for the six weeks following and had to rely on public transport to visit him daily. So my first obvious suggestion would be to ensure that your friend has the means to travel to visit hubby & Sebastian (lovely name). This is then followed by asking her whether she needs any other practical help - shopping, finishing the nursery (we weren't ready at 29wks!), pre-done meals etc.

Always always ask how the little one is doing. She'll need to offload, some days will be good, some will be bad.

She is fortunate that they are in the same hospital, that will at least reduce travelling. In 2009 Andrew was admitted to the children's hospital a day after Marley was admitted to the infirmary here, luckily both are on the same campus but almost half-a-mile apart. I walked the path between the two beds about a dozen times a day, it certainly kept me fit :D

We have a very good Premature Baby discussion forum on the Baby & Bump website (if you ignore the initial American appearance). If your friend has time, I would suggest that she joins and has a read - not just the discussions about problems, but also the wonderful success stories. As for our boy Andrew, well he's now two years old and a complete tearaway :A

  • Just a little update

Sebastian is still with us and fighting. He was meant to be transfering to Great Ormand street for surgery yesterday as his windpipe has collapsed but they have discovered he now has MRSA so is staying put for the time being. Life can be very very cruel

  • I didn't see this when it was first posted and my heart jumped into my throat when I saw when it was originally posted in case an update was bad news. I'm so pleased little Sebastian is holding on but it is sad to hear of the mrsa. I cannot imagine what it must be like to have to go through everything your friend has, I certainly need to start being a lot more greatful for what I've got as it's things like this that put everything into perspective. Much love to you and your friend I very much hope that her baby and husband pull through. Also, my thoughts go out to you as I can understand how helpless you must feel and how hard it must be to see someone you care about going through something so traumatic.
  • my thoughts are with the family, I hope they get good news and the baby and husband both pull through x
