i was on a night flight last year where most of the travellers were asleep...i saw the male flight attendant take a few moments of pug pulling and eating from his nose at the back and then commenced to serve the inflight drinks.......no hand washing there i can tell you...Give blood - its free0

So it's not worth mentioning about germ resistance and the fact that I consider the world a worse place after all these anti bacterial/viral, gels, creams and lotions, not to mention the chopping boards.
I can't believed we manage to survive as a race before we had these things.
You're actually making yourself more vulnerable to picking things up, by having no immunity to them, ever think of that?Freedom is not worth having if it does not include the freedom to make mistakes.0 -
I have an outdoor loo swith no sink. If I'm gardening or working outdoors I go to the loo then go back to the gardening without going into the house to wash hands. If I'm preppping animal's food or going into the feedroom/barns ith sink I wash my hands there.
Usually otherwise I'd wash my hands, but more importantly, IMO, I wash my hands before prepping food/eating or doing stuff like ironing/sewing in the house. Funnily enough I'll happily chomp on somehting straight from the garden without washing it or my hands.0 -
I fear and loathe being sick (or hearing/seeing others being sick) Didn't know it had a 'proper' name, thoughI admit to being an emetophobe (fear of sick) so am definitely more obsessive about germs than 'normal' people.
Not so long ago MoneySaving Martin wrote about this topic in his blog, - blokes not washing their hands after going to the loo in nightclubs.
Yes, it IS important to wash your hands after visiting the loo (men or women!!). The anti-bacterial wipes are a different thing, though. They can kill off the good bacteria as well as the bad, so are usually best avoided. Hot soapy water will get rid of most nasties.0 -
If I was a worry-wart, which I'm not I'd be more frightened by people touching pets and not washing their hands before prepping my food. Any road, this sort of stuff can drive you barmy if you let it. And no, I don't own anything "anti-bac" except proper disinfectant for necessary jobs around the house. Not that there are many.0

I think there's a big difference between washing your hands after going to the loo and being an anti bacterial freak with the gel out at every opportunity.
One is normal and something I'd hope most people would do, the other is bordering on obsessive, so to compare the 2 is a bit silly.
I think we do live in a society where companies are appealing to our fear of germs and I don't myself use any sort of anti bacterial cleaners around the house, or germ killers etc, but I'd say the washing your hands after going to the toilet has been going on for generations, long before any of the new fangled cleaners came about. The frontier is never somewhere else. And no stockades can keep the midnight out.0 -
Always, I then take tissue and open the toliet door with it, as I know dirty people haven't washed.0

My MIL is ridiculous about cleanliness, too much to write about but it always made life difficult for my husband growing up and I would say he now has OCD tendencies towards cleanliness and a later developed dust allergy - his sister is the same as the MIL. Her daughter, my poor niece, was born with multiple allergies and severe eczema to the point where her life is seriously affected - I do wonder whether the germ phobic family had anything to do with it....0 -
Always! I'm a carer for my grandad who doesn't
And it makes me feel ill, despite how many times I remind him. Have antiseptic gel and all that over his house and frequently wash my hands. He has only just let me start doing his washing in the past 6 months too and listening to me about changing his pants every day... his record is 14 days of not washing or changing his clothes (inc pants
) he used to take his trousers and shirt off, sleep in his pants and tshirt and just put the trousers and shirt back on the next morning.
Because of that, I'm really OCD about personal hygiene, I have a really sensitive retch reaction too so the slightest smells set me off.
I really wish there were toilet doors you didn't have to touch to open though... after closing your hands, pulling the door open undoes all your good work after all the mucky beggars who haven't washed or haven't washed properly have touched it too
