  • Have been reading the posts on mattresses and am even more confused than before. My main query is: is it better to get pocket springs with a layer of memory foam on the top as opposed to pocket springs encapsulated with memory foam. Also does anyone know if Salus is a good brand.
  • Anyone else had problems with the O/P provider ~ Sleep Solutions, they were supposed to deliver my matress on Friday, I even called mid day to confirm and no show. Their phone lines are only open 10.00 ~ 4.00 M ~ F and they are not answering. I keep getting a message to call in "Normal business hours" ! have sent them an eMail to call me.

I haven't had to contact them as mine arrived last week by Yodel. I was able to track it and they also gave a 2hr delivery slot.
I have to say that we hate it, it was removed last night and our original memory foam./sprung mattress was reinstated. Now what to do with a King size mattress I can't return?

  • hanks ACR, sorry you hate yours, mine arrived today while I was at work, luckily neighbour was in and took it for me. Kept calling until 4.00 and no response on their phone and they didn't call me.

Bit of a chemical smell so I will leave it unrolled in spare room for a day, thought there might have been some sort of advice note with it. Worst happens and I hate it, it can go in the spare room and I will go back to just having a topper.

CR what didn't you like about yours ? I got the medium firm one.

Are they very hot in the summer ?

We have a NextGen memory foam mattress. The chemical smell will hang around for a few days, so don't expect it to be gone after a day (although they should be left unrolled for at least day before use).

We've had the mattress for three years (I think) now and love it. It's not hot in the summer as it has the coolmax technology, plus a removable and washable zip off velour cover. If yours is similar, you should be ok.

It does take a few days to get used to, as they are very different to a sprung mattress, but after that, hopefully you should be fine.

This is my concern...but do you not need to give it more of a chance? If you have any space in your living room, I would be inclined to find a temporary spot for it and loll around on it whilst watching TV so you get used to it, and then relocate it back into the bedroom.

Are there any other opinions on these mattresses, esp from posters that have used them for a while?

I adore my memory foam mattress, although it is different to this one being springs inside with memory foam top and bottom (and therefore turnable). I got it because we had a memory foam topper which was great but kept slipping around. I certainly wouldn't go back to a regular sprung mattress and can really tell the difference when i sleep somewhere else.

Why would you buy an over priced Tempur mattress. Healthbeds and Kaymed both make very good memory foam products that are about 70% the price of a Tempur product. Tempur is just a name.

Do healthbeds and Kaymed use identical foam to Tempur

I was under impression that only Tempur used the type of foam used in their mattresses. I maybe wrong of course

Just checked out both and it looks like thay have springs under the foam is that right

Has anyone tried a tempur mattress? I havent but if I was to buy a memory foam mattress it would be a tempur but you are talking £1200 for a double but IMO you get what you pay for.

    OFF topic but maybe relevant
I tried various memory foam (cheap pillows) which were all rubbish as they didnt have the density, I now use a tempur pillow and have done for 3 years and it gives exactly the same support now as when bought.

DH and I got our Tempur mattress just before Christmas, and we absolutely love it !!

We had never had a memory foam mattress before, but as I'm disabled with some skeletal problems, and DH was starting to get pains in his hips, and our previous mattress was utterly shot, we decided to bite the bullet and use DH's bonus to buy one.
It is worth every penny we paid for it! We bought it from Dreams, and I did manage to talk the price down a bit (as well as get VAT exempt, due to my disability). It has a 10 year guarantee, so I reckon it will have earned it's keep by the time it's worn out.

Yes, our first night it felt quite strange, but by the third night we were delighted with it. DH's hip pain has gone completely, as has the pain I was getting during the night in my right knee (I was getting myself ready to talk to my specialist about a knee replacement, assuming it was just arthritis setting in). I can also now shift over onto my left side and sleep soundly, whereas before I would get aching in my lower back after an hour or two, So I'm sleeping thru the night, rather than waking every so often and having to turn or shift.

I know there are cheaper brands out out there, but I didn't know anyone who had one, couldn't get any personal recommendations, so we went for the best. We don't regret it at all - except when the alarm goes and we have to haul ourselves out of it !!
I try not to get too stressed out on the forum. I won't argue, i'll just leave a thread if you don't like what I say. :)

I've just read in an earlier post that you can't use an electric blanket with a memory foam mattress, I've had my mattress for about 2 months and have been using one most nights. Does anyone know the reason you are are not supposed to use one.

    Thanks
