  • I'm a little confused now. I want to get the best possible orthapaedic mattress in kingsize so which one would be best. The 8cm memory foam one seems better specced but is cheaper. The two Hypnio ones have hugely differeing RRP's so which to beleive. Is there a big difference quality wise between all the recommendations? Any guidance would be much appreciated.

I have a 15 year old decent quality mattress (at the time it was) I have 2 memory toppers on it at the moment but am starting to experience trouble sleeping. Is it knackered.

Also, would a slatted bedstead be ok for a memory mattress or wouls a divan type be better. If I put down an MDF base on top of the slats would this be better?

Worried about the foam moulding inbetween the slats and compromising comfort.
    Thanks

They are far far too cheap, there is no such thing as a free lunch.

If it sounds to good to be true, then it is too good to be true.

These mattresses may feel ok when new, as you may be sleeping on an old unsupportive mattress. But these all foam mattress will not last, I reckon within 6 months the reflex foam underneath the memory foam will be dented as such. Leaving big dents in the mattress that will over time become uncomfortable.

Stick to springs and foam and pay at least £250 for a double mattress.

A solid base to help support the mattress is the way to go, if wanted to aid venterlation drill some hols in the board.

There is such a thing as a sale though!

I have never had one of these types of mattresses however many of the people who have left positive reviews have, and given the 5 year warranty I would say it seems a good deal.

You say stick with springs and foam. Is this through experience of having used both as like many things is very subjective and not everyone may think the same, otherwise everyone would be buying only springs and foam?

I've used a dense foam King Size mattress for the last 3 years. I think it was either £60 or £80 at Lidl and is certainly still in A1 condition. (non memory foam).

However looking at those reviews I would take them with a pinch of salt considering the 10mm memory foam one gets rated A1 too!

Foam mattresses are underrated but I'd look at the weight density when buying.

    Hi thanks for this
Is the mattress double sided please as I change my mattress around religiously on a 3 to 4 week basis.

You do not turn Memory foam mattresses, you can rotate however (top to bottom).

I have to say we have had a Memory Foam mattress for a few years and we are looking to get a new one, back to springs.

Memory Foam mattresses retain body heat (bad idea if you have hot flushes), and also my husband and I have had loads of aches and pains with a Memory Foam mattress probably down to the fact that you do not tend to move and therefore if you are lying wrong then all the weight remains where you lay, I often wake up with a sore back due to the position I was sleeping in.
Also a new mattress smells for ages, odd smell and it takes a fair while before you either stop noticing or the smell goes away.
Everything has its beauty but not everyone sees it.

Bought a memory foam for my sons bed about a year ago, it came tightly rolled up and when we rolled it out - it was like sleeping on a brick.

I want the best of both worlds, part spring/part memory foam in King size, i.e. not one that comes delivered rolled up :D

    Any suggestions greatfully received

    No there isn't.

There is such a thing as marketing, but a geniune sale in the Bed and Mattress world. Nope.

Only shops that have lots and lots of small physical items have real sales. As it's cheaper to sell the items at cost then to either warehouse it (man hours involved in moving it) or throw it away (too costly). So clothes stores, shoe shops, small items will be reduced.

As for beds and mattresses any item that isn't in stock there is no REAL reason for it to be discounted other then a Marketing gimmick, which we all full for! DFS and there never ending sale! etc...

Marketing/sales call it what you like but if I had a large stock of items that had lets say been superceded by a newer model, unless I discounted the older models they would not sell would they?

If there are no sales then what is the point of this grabbit while you can section?

Do you have any experience of the foam only mattress?
