Double memory foam mattress bargain

Oh dear, I'm really confused now! (But thanks to raider and StevenJones for your best efforts!) I could really use a new mattress on the old 4ft divan bed, but I can't afford to potentially waste over £100 on something that may not suit and am now wondering whether I should just go for a new bed entirely (the old one's a bit past its prime!) Add to that, I've heard you can't use a leccy blanket with memory foam - and I really love my leccy blanket:). So, on balance, I think this may be one occasion where I'll be grateful for my complete indecisiveness regarding everything! I think I'll be better trawling round trying some out (IYSWIM!) and then having a bl***y good haggle (which I do so enjoy:D)
But for those that have ordered, please let us know how you get on!0 -
hi, i have arthritis in my spine so do have problems when sleeping so would just like to give my opinion on both types of mattresses.
we used to have a spring mattress up until about 7 years ago and we decided to try a memory foam to see if it helped me.
we brought a new divan and memory foam mattress which in total cost us nearly £600.
after about 6 years we decided to get a new one as i started to suffer more and more every night so went ahead and brought a much cheaper one similar to the one op has spotted but off of ebay which cost us £149.99.
to this day it is still as it was when we first got it so in my opinion the cheaper ones can be just as good as the dearer ones.
And just to add that i would never go back to a spring mattress again, i hope this does help some of you decide.have now given up smoking since feb 13th 2014 loving the money I'm saving0 -
Best advice I can give you is don't buy a mattress off the Internet unless you've already tried the exact same model in a shop.
There's no substitute for trying them out yourself no matter how embarrassing it may be to your OH in the shop.
We bought one of those Hypnia memory foam ones -all foam with a memory foam top-and I absolutely hated it. I stuck it for a year while I saved up to replace it and then dragged OH to the biggest bed warehouse around and tried LOADS. I ended up with a coil and strings one with a silk topper which is like sleeping on a cloud and makes such a difference to how I feel in the morning. With the memory foam it was like sleeping on a heated cobbled road. It moulds to your body and doesn't change shape quickly when you move so it's lumpy bumpy and always hot. I'd wake up really early aching all over and couldn't enjoy a lie in even at the weekend.
Memory foam must suit some people, judging by the mixed reviews but go and try it for yourself first. Mattresses are not the same as toasters, it's much more subjective and we made an expensive mistake."A savoury muffin?? As if life wasn't disappointing enough!" Miranda0 -

Agree with all of the above
As I mentioned earlier we have been less than impressed with out Memory Foam mattress but have stuck it out a few years, so now in the process of getting a new one. We will keep our Memory Foam one for the spare room as a guest bed.
Also agree, always try the mattress before you buy, you can always shop on line once you know what you are buying.Everything has its beauty but not everyone sees it.0 -
My mattress was delivered today, my daughter is very happy with it but we will soon see if she still likes it come the morning.
I would say that to my eyes it is a good cheap mattress, NOT a good mattress cheap! (sadly)
I would have to also say take the claimed £400rrp with a handfull of salt, It's not that I'm unhappy with it and I certainly cant knock the service and speed of the supplier, its just that it really isn't as heavy as I anticipated a "dense" foam product to be.
I guess only time will tell.:cool:To anyone that tells you "There is no I in team" say no there isn't
But there ARE TWO I'S IN COMMISSION and I dont get paid "Team"
...........:D.......... Faint Heart, Fair Maiden, Juan NEVER!.0 -
have had back trouble on and off for years... old matress well worn out so bought a memory foam matress (the usual memory foam and normal foam)
absolutly love it. Took me a week or two to get over the hole left behind when I moved. I always give up my room for guests they ALL say how good the bed is. Would never go back to standard springs etc.
Just my view
Have to say only 2 years old so who knows where it will be in five.
Is was Hypnia off eBay and aboy £1503.995kWP SSW facing. Commissioned 7 July 2011. 24 degree pitch + Solar Immersion installed May 2013, after two Solar Immersion lasting just over the guarantee period replaced with Solic 200... no problems since0 -
Meadows;49840851You do not turn Memory foam mattresses, you can rotate however (top to bottom).
I have to say we have had a Memory Foam mattress for a few years and we are looking to get a new one, back to springs.
Memory Foam mattresses retain body heat (bad idea if you have hot flushes), and also my husband and I have had loads of aches and pains with a Memory Foam mattress probably down to the fact that you do not tend to move and therefore if you are lying wrong then all the weight remains where you lay, I often wake up with a sore back due to the position I was sleeping in.
Also a new mattress smells for ages, odd smell and it takes a fair while before you either stop noticing or the smell goes away.[
/QUOTE]
Memory foam has a chemical in it that can cause allergic reactions especially to asthma sufferers, although the smell should go after a while.
Has anyone tried a tempur mattress? I havent but if I was to buy a memory foam mattress it would be a tempur but you are talking £1200 for a double but IMO you get what you pay for.
OFF topic but maybe relevant
I tried various memory foam (cheap pillows) which were all rubbish as they didnt have the density, I now use a tempur pillow and have done for 3 years and it gives exactly the same support now as when bought.0 -

Why would you buy an over priced Tempur mattress. Healthbeds and Kaymed both make very good memory foam products that are about 70% the price of a Tempur product. Tempur is just a name.Helping the country to sleep better....ZZZzzzzzzz0
