And am not the one who broke the rules here and neither was i late.
I wasn't making a dig at you - at least not deliberately. I apologise if it came across that way.
It's just that I've never encountered such an issue before* except for passengers who are last to board - those who have already got their hand luggage stowed usually get to keep it stowed. So I'm curious why you were targeted for displacement of an item of hand luggage? (This doesn't obviate BA's liability - I agree that they are at fault).
* I've done just about every type of commercial flying permutation that can be done; city-hopper, short-haul, long-haul, checked bags, hand luggage only, with infants, business class, economy, el-cheapo (Ryanair, Easyjet) etc.0 -
BA website re Infants luggage allowance - "One bag (for items your infant may require during the flight)". Clearly a 7 month old baby doesn't need a camera whilst flying. The camera shouldn't have been there in the first place, although as has been said before by taking the bag, BA effectively accepted a 'duty of care' for the item and should be responsible.
I wonder whether the bag ever got put in the hold or was stored elsewhere during the flight - I'm curious if it was the same person that took it that informed the OP that they would find it with the checked baggage.
c'mon. Clearly this is just a run away from a fault. Am sure about the explosives, flammable liquids and over 100ml liquids but the rules din't say any thing about the camera. Well next time include that on the list.
In fact i was one of the last people to get off the plane because i had to wait for people to get off so i can look properly for my bag. After i was sure it wasn't on the cabin i asked the lady who kept it. And she said it is among the checked in and therefore i should find it inside the airport on the baggage belt.0 -

Anyone remember the joke in Coronation Street years ago with the gnome being "kidnapped" and photographed aroudn the world? I wonder if the bar is on a similar trip.[
Simply because there was no need to and they were sure. This was my bag but i also think they broke the rules. And if i was someone else i would doubt BA competence0 -
A question I asked yesterday:
Was there no room at all for the 2nd bag to go under your seat?
I would have been bloody angry if I'd been led to believe my cabin bag had just been placed somewhere else in the plane cabin (and therefore available to me at any point during the flight) but they'd put it into the hold.
What if it had had emergency medication (epipen, insulin etc) in it?
It might have started out as hand luggage but if it went into the hold it then became hold luggage and I would have thought it should have had a bar-code tag attached to it and you given the receipt.
I think this is a good point, Sleazy.
Maybe it never went into the hold at all and that's why it wasn't on the carousel.
If it was just a bag left in the plane at the end of a flight with no way of identifying the owner maybe that's why they couldn't find it.
OP:
was this bag clearly labelled with your contact details?
No it wasn't labelled with anything that identified me.0 -

Did you check EVERY overhead bin and storage locker on the plane before you got off?No it wasn't labelled with anything that identified me.
I'm starting to think that it wasn't ever put in the hold and was still somewhere in the cabin and because it had no means of being traced to anybody, it's either lying in a cupboard with all the other untraceable bags or has been sold/destroyed (or whatever BA do with unclaimed bags).
Did they give you any breakdown of what the £190 compensation they sent you actually covered?0 -

I din't check every where, just the place i thought she put it, (and that was the section next to ours ). After looking for sometime, i then asked the lady.
response from BA
''Thank you for coming back to us about your recent problem with your luggage.
I am sorry that you are unhappy with our previous response. I understand your disappointment, as we have not considered your claim for the lost medicines and camera. It is also concerning to know that you do not have any receipts of your missing property.
When our customers tell us that something has gone wrong, our first response is to apologise and take action to address the problem and try to stop it happening again. Sometimes it is possible to make an immediate change. Other changes take more time.
I would like to inform you that your hand luggage was not as per the size and restriction. Hence, our staff had to check in your bag in the hold. To add further, we are not liable for any medicines and camera.
I have thoroughly reviewed your circumstances again. I do understand your disappointment with our decision, but I am afraid that, based on everything you told us, our position hasn’t changed. That means we are unable to compensate you for the missing medicines and camera.
The fastest and most secure way to settle your claim is by bank transfer to a UK account. I would, though, be happy to credit your bank account with £190.00 as a contribution towards your claim. Please provide the following information so I can set up your bank transfer:
Bank name
Branch name and its location
Sort code (6 digits)
Account number (8 digits)
If you would like to fax us your details our fax number is 01787 883 195 or you can send your details by email. Please feel free to send more than one email or fax if you are concerned about providing all your information at once, and include your Customer Relations reference number on all correspondence.
I hope to hear from you soon.
Best regards

C'mon BA why wasn't this mentioned from the check in section so then i could protect my valuables. LIARS!0 -

Maybe it's time to look at this from a differnet perspective:
How far does the £190 go to cover what was in the bag plus the bag itself?
You mention:baby's medicines, pampers, formula milk, toys, feeding bottles, clothing, cameras, etc.
If you take out the medicine & camera, £190 seems quite a lot of compensation.
What was the value of the medication that you would presumably have had to buy to replace the lost stuff?
Was it a video camera or a camera?
Your post on the other board mentioned video camera.
How old was it? And how much did it cost?
I don't think you can expect BA to replace old with new.
However, I would at least go back to BA and debate the issue of over-sized hand luggage.
This should have been dealt with at check-in so you would have had time to move the things you really needed for the journey with you.
I would also point out to them that if they did put your bag in the hold, it should have had a destination tag with bar-code on it (as your hold luggage would have done) and you should have been given the bar-code receipt to allow tracing in the event of it being mis-laid/lost.
Tell them that you were given no chance by cabin staff to move important stuff into the bag you were keeping with you.
But - for future flights you should really make sure that your hand luggage is within the dimensions and weight for the airline you're flying with.0 -
Anyway, I really appreciate everyone's concern and responses. It is a lesson i have decided to take on board.0
