It's been a few years since I flew with BA, but how on earth did they not have room for a piece of hand luggage, or do they no longer allow you to place it under your seat?

(on most flights I take, I put my bag under the seat so that I can get to it easily after take off).
Should've = Should HAVE (not 'of')
Would've = Would HAVE (not 'of')

No, I am not perfect, but yes I do judge people on their use of basic English language. If you didn't know the above, then learn it! (If English is your second language, then you are forgiven!)

Without getting into the discussion again over the rights/wrongs of BA, they did have room for a piece of hand luggage. They just didn't have room for 2 pieces.

In most aircraft you can still put luggage under the seat in front of you (but generally not under your own seat as this is where your life jacket will normally be).
This isn't always the case though as bulkhead & emergency exit seats don't have a seat directly in front, and some seats also have a lot of the under space taken up with the in-flight entertainment amplifier/diplexer units.

I don't know about the medicine, but the reason for there being no compensation for the camera will probably be down to the fact that BA state all valuable items must be taken in hand baggage and not put in checked luggage.

Did your 7 month old have a full ticket of their own?
If not, then they wouldn't have had a carry on baggage allowance which would have meant that you were limited to only 1 main carry on bag and a small one for baby items only.
Because of this, they would have been entitled to take one bag and put it in the hold.

This makes some sense, thanks. Although, it would have been more helpful if the rules are more straight forward before buying the ticket, than saying i was entitled to 2 hand luggage. then when its lost its my fault. And I had to pay extra for the baby yeah.

You might want to reread - your post makes little sense. What is it that you want?

I just want to know why would some items be considered for compensation while others not.

wouldn't medicine be free for baby anyway? Other than the odd bottle of cough mixture or whatever which is only a few £££. For £190 I think you might have done reasonably well here.

I would be relieved to get 3 bottles of calpol for free.

Medicine would be free for your child so no costs associated with this.

Do you have home insurance? perhaps your camera would be covered under this.

The video camera is probably 2 years old and dont have any of its documents.

Were you told that you were entitled to 2 items of hand luggage?

Were you amongst the last to board?

Was their no room at all for the 2nd bag to go under your seat?

Were you offered the chance to move some items out of the bag that eventually went into the hold?

What was in the other bag, and why did you choose to put the one with lots of your baby's stuff and a camera into the hold rather than keeping that one with you?

Did you submit a formal claim for the lost luggage?
If so, what do you mean about doing the survey?

When your bag was put into the hold, were you given a barcode that identified it?

all well and good but the passenger was allowed to board with the hand luggage, BA should have refused the bag at check in if there was an issue with this, they cannot retrospectively refuse compensation based on the bag size - it would have been up to the check in staff (and even those on the bag drop if using self check in) to refuse.

The only issue here is there was no space in the cabin for the bag, this is not the fault of the passenger - if the bag was put below it needed a tag applied - there is plenty of space on board the crew could have put a bag - heck my mum had a chandelier put in the captains closet once :D

BA can't be selective over compensation here, if anything, by putting the camera in the hold they opened the OP up to the risk, not the otherway round.

    This is my point.
