  • Hello,

Ism glad that you have had a lovely weekend. You are so right to prioritise your family at this time. On the subject of nappies, my eldest sons are 30 and 31 now, and both were in terry applies at the sae time. Disposables had not been around long and were expensive and unreliable so most people used terries and it didn't seem a problem, we just did it. With number three, four years later, I used them again and everybody thought I was mad but again, I just did it and when you are in the routine it is fine. So in a long winded way, I am saying stick with reusables and save money and the planet! These surveys that say terries are more expensive are rubbish when you bear in mind things lie using the same 24 nappies for three children!

thanks for the encouragment sss, it is amazing in RL how most people think i am bonkers for even trying reusable nappies! and interesting to hear from your experience how quickly attitudes can change. I think I already have more than 24 nappies, but as most are size 1 am looking for some size 2 for him to grow into. would rather have a few too many rather than worry about them drying in time, or have to use the tumble drier (which i did when the weather was poor!)

nappies out on the line again, and tried a bumgenius for the first time. they are ok i suppose, but can't quite understand the hype, think i prefer a 2 part system.

today and yesterday he has been very sleepy in the afternoons. yesterday i had a nap, today i did 25 mins of cindy crawford's new dimensions exercise dvd, and a bit of housework.

this morning i tried a baby group; i met a few nice people but overall it seemed a bit cliquey. there were a few too many middle class mums who spoke like they knew it all. i'm on my second, and its becoming clear how different every baby is - i am humbled by it. having people shoving their opinions on childrearing down your throat is not really appreciated. i'm surprised to say, but i am really quite happy relaxing with ds at home - for now, at least.

Morning all! Just about to pop out to have lunch with a friend, and DS has his jabs this afternoon.

Have made good progress on bucket list which is here if anyone fancies a nosy!

A couple of surveys done, and have bagged the crib we want for £30 from fleabay in immaculate condition (over £100 new). DS is outgrowing his moses, and we still want him in our room - the cotbed is just too big! we were given the moses basket and have someone to pass it onto.

Gosh, SSS, you have bought back memories.... my poor mum spent 10 years constantly washing the terry-towelling nappies - they were just a plain white square of terry-towelling, so one size fit all and she also had washable nappy liners, and two HUGE pins to hold the nappy together. I used to get 1c pocket money for helping my mum fold up the clean nappies my younger siblings were using!

I think the downside was that babies used to get more nappy-rash as the terry wasn't as absorbent as some of the new materials. There was a special cream mum used to use to soothe the nappy rash... it had a very distinctive smell, and I know if I smelt it today I would instantly recognise it!

hello both, good to see you :D.

DD is home, happy, exhausted but calm. She fell asleep on the sofa last night, and this morning got up at 10am ! Lovely to have her back.

Easy day for us today, we all need it. Will get washing on to start getting through DDs camp stuff, and have a small Ama$on sale to post. Meeting a friend at 4 for tea, and have decided not to go into town this evening for leaving do. We're all too tired, especially as DS had his jabs and is a bit unsettled.

Bad news on the finance front. Car had to go in for diagnostic testing, pipe split so £220 spent. We also need to replace front brake bads, another £180 there :(. Spent close to £1k on parts and servicing for the car so far this year, not happy. Does anyone have a ford service plan, and if so does it work out good value?

  • Hello,

Can't help With the car I'm afraid, but I can sympathise. So frustrating as it seems like money for nothing.

Sepa, I suspect you are thinking of sudocreme. Yes, the nappies were just squares, no sizes, just pinned together but they worked pretty well. I did have the reusable liners too but preferred paper ones as you could just flush them away with the contents... Or is that too much info!

    All the best,

    Squirrel

Hey Squirrel - it is exactly that, I can't SEE anything wrong with the car, so why should I have to spend money to fix it? :rotfl:! All fixed now and safe for the family.

We picked up the crib on Saturday - combined it with long planned trip to the seaside. The seller couldn't find the bumper so offered £10 back - which is great as we didn't really want the bumper anyway so got exactly what we wanted in immaculate condition for £20 instead of retail price of almost £80!

We went to Margate to see the new Turner Contemporary Gallery - which is very striking but has no permanent displays, and if you don't like the temporary exhibition there isn't much more to see. It is currently showing a Tracey Emin show, who I like, but as I spent most of my time with DD on the beach I couldn't get a proper look round! OH spent more time there and he seemed a bit underwhelmed - I suppose because we heard so much about it when it opened. I do hope it can regenerate Margate though. We had lunch in the gallery cafe too, which we WERE quietly impressed with. After spending over £6  to park in Margate centre we then stopped off at Westgate beach (I think) which was lovely - nice sand, not too soft so could get buggy on beach - and the sea was really gentle and a very gradual decline. We dipped DS's toes in the sea for the first time :D, and then DD and I played in the sea together for about an hour. We had a round of ice-creams too, but with delays in traffic and a much needed feeding stop for DS (and DD!) on the way home we didn't get back home til 10.30pm. It was a lovely family day, the sun shone and DD was happy, and so even though it was quite spendy for us it was definitely worth it.

Sunday was also busy with family, and MIL has arrived today for a couple of nights so expecting another full week. We are still tired from the beach trip TBH.

And I think I get bumgenius now, they do seem to wick away the damp from DS's skin. But am on lookout for tot$ bot$ bamb00zle stretch size 2 as we have decided these are our favourites; if anyone has any to sell in good condition please let me know!

Tomorrow MIL taking DD out to London Zoo, have ensured she knows about the rail 2 for 1 ;), and instructed her NOT to buy any more cuddly toys for DS! I am thinking of trying a buggyfit class in the morning, then have a small Ama$on sale to post and need to take DS for another blood test as he still has jaundice.

Feet up!? you really must explain this concept to me :rotfl:! Have reached the end of the day exhausted, and cross with OH for being grumpy and tired too. DD enjoyed her day at the zoo but her and MIL also shattered so all in need of a good night's sleep - nos da everyone!
