Hi All,
Just a short note as I occasionally lurk on your thread to get strength to tackle the supply of toiletries. Specifically, I travel a lot for work and cannot help but to stockpile those cute, teeny tiny bottles of shampoo, shower gel, etc. You might think that's not so much a problem as they are so small, but...
1. When you have at least 150+ teeny tiny toiletries, you may as well have 1 billion+
2. They multiply at night...and I keep traveling for work.
I write here specific to the topic brought up by asset2004. I work in an area which is closely related to human resources, and no one should have to put up with bullying or harassment in the workplace! Just a few tips if you are:
-check out the directgov website for 'bullying in the workplace', it has many useful tips.
-the tip of talking to HR or your Union Rep is the right first step.
-keeping a log or diary of events and proof of every email, etc is also good.
-if you do not get to resolution by informally talking to HR or your union, then put everything in writing and submit it to HR to make a formal complaint. They cannot ignore this so easily and must investigate it. Be sure to put in your letter what you want to happen to resolve your complaint (the person stops doing X, etc.)
-if possible, speak directly to the person doing it (with witnesses nearby, or if in writing then save the email) and say that you want the annoying behaviour to stop, this is important as their defence is often 'I didn't know'. Recognizing this can be extremely difficult often, but it is good to show before sending in your HR letter, that you tried to resolve the situation.
Potentially you can claim constructive dismissal and take your case to the tribunals and smart HR people realise this and do not want things to come to this level. Their job is to resolve these sorts of issues.
Recognising that many people don't want to deal with this topic in general and would rather muddle on than potentially lose a bad job than have no job. If so, I'd start looking for other opportunities on the side in any event--you shouldn't have to deal with such a negative environment at work.
Just some thoughts from Essex while the travel sized toiletries continue their breeding. If anyone needs advise on the above, please send me a message, I'm always willing to review/help with any letters as this is a topic I take very seriously, having once been in a similar situation myself. It is possible to solve it!

Asset, what I'd add to the advice other people have given is this: do not trust HR. Their job is to protect the organisation, not its people. Irrespective of what it says in the bullying and harassment policy, they will act in the business's best interests. They won't side with you because you're in the right.
That's why it's important to be in a union. They are on your side and have access to the best legal advice. I'm in a senior role and I've seen HR scr*w people over many times. Some of my good friends work in HR but I always work on the basis that I should rely on myself and my union.
The advice you've had about keeping a log of incidents and showing that you've attempted to resolve things informally is good. To that I'd add: realise that your employer may try to force you down the road of taking an exit package and guard against it. For example, if you find it intolerable working for a persistent bully and can't face e.g. attending meetings with that person, they may argue that you are refusing to carry out 'business as usual' and hence should be relieved of your normal duties. That's the first step towards being pushed out. You must fight against it.
The sad truth is that for many businesses the cheapest and simplest way of solving problems like this is to exit the more junior person. Don't let this happen to you. You're in a union, which is great news. Your employer owes you a duty of care. Make sure they fulfil it.
I truly wish you all the best.0 -
Hi Ladies
Welcome to 2012. I first joined this site at the beginning of 2010 and haven't posted since then. Needless to say my tioletry stash hasn't decreased!!!
In 2012 I am going to make a real effort to decrease my tioletry stash as well as declutter my house
Here's hoping I can make itAbsinthe_Fairy wrote: »Serious near-purchasing incident today: went into Boots and they had a very appealing stand with half price Philosophy Christmas gifts. - BareMinerals sample foundation
- Nick Lowe supercharged day cream
- Bamford geranium bath oil
- Bamgford geranium body wash
- Bamford geranium body lotion
- 1 unidentified small pot
And finally some UUs:
Elemis gentle rose exfoliator - WBA as this left my skin feeling really soft. However, need to use some Liz Earle exfoliators first and a Papaya enzyme peel
Elemis proradiance cleanser - WBA - this has become one of my HG products and is up there with Liz E cleanse and polish.
Liz Earle intensive nourishing treatment - WNBA - not too keen on the smell or texture of this - am ploughing through my hoards by using it on my hands as my hands get really dry in winter - just 7 x 15 ml tubes and 4 x 50ml to go....
BareMinerals foundation - have already bought again -see above...
Sorry for the long post but have been really busy this week and have only just caught up with all your updates0 -
Another 2 UU! My oh my, why are they never normally this quick?!
TBS Jolly Orange body butter- WIBA? I wouldn't go out of my way to but if I saw it in a sale I would. It's been discontinued though!
Avon Dry Skin SOS body lotion- WIBA? Yes, it's very moisturizing and has a very neutral smell. I have another bottle in the stash.
I'm now on to Active Naturals sweet clementine body butter0 -
I gave a lotion to my husband to use, so he can help me with some UU's. I doubt he'll use it though lolNo Buying Unnecessary Toiletries Challenge

Is there an easier way?
go in through the bottom. i refilled my travel brush that way. theres a plastic disc that has the label on, if you get a knife under the edge of that disc, it pops off and on again if you only want a bit out). mine took a bit of getting back on again but it does go back on in the end.0 -
I have some ins today. I managed to get 2x 500ml spray sun creams 50+ and 30, 2x facial sun cream 50 and 25 and 2x after sun with aloe. These were all on sale and I paid with points. They should have been (sale price) £4, £4, £5, £5, £2, £2 but I used 1300 points to pay for it. Seems like all of the soltan stuff was on a promotion of some sort.
I don't feel guilty about these because we'll need them for our trip to Florida and I spent no cash on themDebt: 16/04/2007:TOTAL DEBT [strike]£92727.75[/strike] £49395.47:eek:   £43332.28 repaid 100.77% of £43000 target.MFiT T2: Debt [STRIKE]£52856.59[/STRIKE] £6316.14 £46540.45 repaid 101.17% of £46000 target.2013 Target: completely clear my [STRIKE]£6316.14[/STRIKE] £0 mortgage debt. £6316.14 100% repaid.0
