Hmm its a shame I am using it for a balance transfer - one could go for lxdirect code, spend £50 and get £20+£10 back?

Late, and a bad idea if you're just after a bonus. Call them and see if you can cancel it (tell them there's some prospect of marital breakdown or something!).
They periodically make offers to get second cardholders added - £20 was one, others have included 6 bottles of wine. So just hang on until something comes along.
By the way, a spouse can add a husband AND vice versa, so if you have a card each you can qualify for the bonus twice. As we did this time round.0
