As I recall, they don't ask for enough details (i.e. address) about the second person to do a credit check - why would they need to, as they're not offering any extra credit, and you'll still be responsible for it?

  • They do ask for the second card holders address (or they did at least when i applied for one)

I asked Egg where my 20 quid was...

"If you were one of the first 8000 customers to request a secondary cardholder, you'll receive the £20 credit to your account by the 31st October 2004. "

I guess Egg want a lot more than 8000 people to apply for their second card :(
  • Just checked - Egg have made a credit of £20 on the 1/10. I was obviously one of the lucky 8000 8)

I don't know whether they perform a credit search on that 2nd person or not, I presume so because they have to verify that they are over 18.
I have never known a CC issuer carry out a credit check on an additional cardholder; this is most likely because the principal cardholder is liable for any debt on the card regardless of which cardholder incurred it.
