Another Mitsubishi vote here, though I would suggest the Outlander.

I looked at this and though it looks prettier than the Grandis, the rear 2 seats were similar to our old seven seater Toyota Verso (i.e. not proper seats and a crap boot when all 7 seats are used) and the space inside wasn't much, if any, bigger.

So we went for the Grandis, which was also £10,000 cheaper than the Outlander, albeit 2 years older. A much better buy.

1.6 ltr diesel or 2.0 l petrol. both economical engines, avoid 1.8ltr.

1.6 lowest to tax 2.0 ltr better performance without compremising economy.

A nice car (a rebadged Focus C Max), but still not a full size MPV (like a Focus S Max, Ford Galaxy, Renault Espsace, Mitsubishi Grandis( so may not be large enough for the OP.

With 3 children and a pram, the OP really needs a full size MPV. A Huyndai Santa Fe may be adequate but I haven't seen one in the flesh.

Hyundai i800? You can get them almost new for £15,000 and come with a 5 year warranty. MPG might not be as good as a verso 2.0td but very flexible with 8 seats.

I have 4 children - all grown up now. When 4th was born we couldn't afford the (then relatively new) MPVs and used a Vauxhall (now Isuzu) van with 8 seats for about 10 years.
When I went back to work, we got a new Toyota Previa and it was brilliant! Bought the first one in 1995 and finally got rid of it, 160k miles, in 2003. All that time, the only expenses were wear-and-tear. By then kids were leaving home, but often needed stuff transporting, so we got another - take out the seats and it's just like a luxury van. We are always taking seats out & putting them back in depending on numbers. It's easy for elderly family members to get in & out of as well.
They are not cheap (but neither is a Prius) and have been great value for us.

I'd be looking at Volvo XC90's.

I disagree because in the case of the 7 seat Verso the flexible seating arrangement will easily accommodate them.:)

Was a struggle for us, otherwise I would have kept it.

Nothing wrong with it, other than it was too small (for us, two adults and three under fives).

Not sure about the flexible seating. Ours was an 05 T3 model and the flexible seating was to have 5, 6 or 7 seats. Not that flexible really. The seats were either up or down. Having said that, the Grandis is the same but the boot is a LOT bigger. It's over a foot longer in 7 seat mode.

I would vote for the toyota previa but we are looking at VW Caravalle (sp?) next, if only because of the boot space AND the extra seats.
we've Looked at Mazda 7 and Kia Carens both have 7 seats but no boot space no good when we want to goaway on holiday.
