thanks matt,

thats really what i needed to hear.
i really thought i was going to have to have extra tap fitted for drinking.
i am going to ring them tomorrow just to see what they say.
they do have too come back and swap 2 flexible hoses as the ones they brought were not the right bore for high pressure.
they really do seem like a good outfit.

the chap who fitted it was taking into hospital friday to have wisdom teeth removed as a bit of an emergency, so my mistrust with them not doing it friday was totally wrong.

i will report back soon.

Hi Joe. Has the taste gotten better. I read most of this thread and I expected your remarks about drinking soft water as you were updating us on your progress. I plan on getting a water softener soon and a reverse osmosis filter. I wonder if that will make soft water drinkable or is it still better to leave an unsoftened tap?

It is so hard to find help on house water treatment (I don't want to get advice from a salesman).

hi semo,
the taste of the water is just fine.
the bad taste went within a few days.
everything is just fine with the softener.
i am still waiting for them to pop back and fit some bigger hoses that we need for the pressurized system.
i am going to give it another month and calculate the salt as it does seem to be using a fair bit.
upto now ive used 2x20kg which seems a lot.

I probably sound a bit cynical about manufacturers recommendations which I feel are often designed to allow them wriggle out of most situations regarding claims and liabilities.. these are most definitely my own opinions though!

I must disagree, to some extent, with you there Matt. Most retailers (who are the people that the customer has a contract with) are pretty good within the warranty period.
I do have some sympathy with them with a lot of so-called claims - some householders do the must incredible/stupid things with household appliances - then claim it was the manufacturer's fault ..................

Interesting. Maybe it is a faulty unit if it's consuming too much salt. Or part of bedding in maybe?

Also, what do you mean by pressurized system. I'm looking to increase water pressure in my new house. Thinking of a pump but not sure where to start looking.

our heating and hot water system is what they call a pressurised system, so it needs a high pressure kit, they have fitted the valves but the hoses were the wrong size it needs bigger hoses.
basically it takes longer too fill the bath, this should improve with the bigger hoses.
too be honest its about 80% if what it was before so really its ok, but ive paid for the whole kit so id rather it was all fitted.

If it's of any help, we use around 25 Kg a month (that's for two of us at the moment).

thanks doc,
i does seem to have used a quite a lot.
yesterday was a calender month and last night it regenerated.
i hadnt topped up last time, there is about 2" of half dissolved tablet in the bottom and about 4" of i assume brine water.
i am going to fill it up today.
on the basis of you using 25kg per mth for 2 pers, it probably is not using too much @ 50kg per mth for 3 adults and 10 year old.
my bag size is 25kg and not 20kg that i wrote.

I quickly looked at a few sites and it seems 25kg of salt is around £5 - £10. It seems this can get a bit costly to keep running. Does anyone have a 2020c (I know it isn't very popular on this thread) and tell us how much they spend every month on salt. Thanks

i paid £8 per bag for my 10 bags of salt but can get in my town for £6 per 25kg, i didnt know that at the time.
but lets say one bag every 2 weeks.
we will save a minimum of £3 a week on soap powder, so effectively there is no cost other than the initial outlay.
we are very pleased with it, and if anyone in norfolk or suffolk is looking for a good outfit to buy and fit a softener from i would certainly recomend these people.

£6 a bag is a good price for salt (Hydrosoft?, Aquasol?) - particularly if they'll deliver a large order. I got 25 bags last Spring for £6 a bag, delivered, but it took some doing, and I don't know how prices have moved since then.

Maybe we need to be comparing notes on salt prices? :)
