It's horrible isn't it? I doubt there'll be any long term scarring though. DD had PE today and said "everyone" in her class was just staring at her arms :( I felt so sad for her. She doesn't go on about it, but I know it's making her feel very self-conscious at the moment.

The cold definitely exacerbates it, as does heat. In fact one of the recommendations in the book is to avoid the Sun and sunbathing. Bang goes the trip to Spain methinks...last year, her skin was very bad when we were there.

I feel kind of helpless and have tried so many things for certain lengths of time before she gets sick of it - or we both do. I'll keep you posted :)

I know that feeling of helplessness. Things like this go against our motherly desire to always make things right for our children. Looking around t'internet, putting a linen bag or stocking full of oats under the taps when running a bath seems to be popular. Don't know if you've ever tried this? I know I haven't! The aveeno cream that was mentioned earlier is also v popular. I'm heading back to the GP at the end of the week, so will see if I can get some on prescription.

Yes, an oatmeal bath is something I haven't tried, but will. It says to mill the oats so I was wondering if Readybrek would work?!
Aveeno cream is definitely working to make her skin softer, it's the best thing we've used. Sadly it doesn't even begin to affect the actual eczema. The only thing that works is the steroid cream, but that is now our last resort. I guess it will take a few weeks before we see if the combination of the new regime works.

    Hello

OK, not done well on the non-spending front today. Went out at lunchtime to buy little DD some trainers (£17) and ended up spending another £33 on Aveeno cream and bath stuff (on offer), various non-essential food items (mini bags of biscuits - why?!) and olive oil which we did need. Still, I wish I'd stayed in with my packed lunch!!!

We are waiting for some quotes for building repairs to this house. DH thinks it will be around £500. The fact that scaffolding was mentioned has made me think it will be over £1k and perhaps more....I'm going to email the builders now and prepare for the worst.

Mortgage number 2 has been on my mind this week, so I'm going to ring them to get a balance - interest only though, so not sure I really want to know - then I will start tracking at new BTL rates now in preparation for Sept when the fix ends.

We STILL haven't had the gas meter issued resolved, as they didn't turn up on Friday  No explanation, but when I called today the girl said she would "lodge a complaint" for me (which will do what exactly?). In the meantime, we are still hemorrhaging gas at a rate of knots....
Other than that, it is freezing cold here so I am sitting in front of the fire all evening - s*d the gas bill :p

    Hi Macgirl

Know that the diary is for 'money' things but life always creeps in and I think that is completely ok. So glad to hear that the Aveeno cream is working for you, we got it on prescription after a very helpful doctor recommended it. A friend of mine made a direct request for it and her doctor prescribed it too. Know that it is very pricey, so it does help to have it on repeat prescription.

We find that the cream really helps make the skin softer but can't stress enough that the wash for the bath was what really really helped my little girl and got almost rid of it. Please do try the wash as well if you haven't already.

Agree that heat and cold don't help matters, cold is worse for us for some reason. All the very best and well done on the lunches, I have been doing this too and have been AMAZED at what I have saved!!

  • Hi MacG, I just laughed when I read the "lodge a complaint" comment from the gas person, you need a lovely mail of complaint to be sent off - like my BT one! Hope all goes well and definitely stay in front of the fire.

SJ1, I had no idea you could even ask a Dr to prescribe Aveena, so that's a really good tip - thanks.

Fingers crossed for the builder call and the B2L mortgage call.

    Best wishes Tilly x

    Hi SJ and thanks :)
Yes, I will try and get this on prescription - I need to be as MSE as I can. Thanks for the tip.
I bought some of the bath wash today, but DD was feigning illness tonight - (trying to get out of doing her handwriting practise homework) - so DH let her off her bath. Will try it tomorrow.

And yes! Having taken lunch religiously rather than as and when, I have saved £'s and been healthier. Glad it's worked for you too :)

When I heard that, it made me roll my eyes as I do when I hear the government "open an investigation" when someone has been caught doing something that they all usually do and get away with.
    Pull the other one

But yes, when it is resolved, I might either write a letter to the Chairman or failing that The Guardian and see if I can get a "Goodwill Gesture" too ;)

Macgirl - close your ears for a minute, please....

....SJ1 - can I just clarify, is it Aveeno bath wash that you use or is it another brand? I'm hoping to get my little one into the docs on Friday, so I just want to be sure of what i'm asking for :)

*runs quick and promises not to mention eczema cream again* :D

    Hi there hopeful

OK, just got the bottle from upstairs! It is Aveeno Bath Oil, we have found it amazing. Our doctor prescribed it straight away but I know other people whose doctors have given them a series of cheaper and frankly useless products (like aqueous cream which we found not v good at all). Good luck, sure you will put up a good fight with them. My friend had to argue, but they had tried several things, eczema was no better and so doc said ok. My doc just wrote it out straight away and it really stopped the spread of it in it's tracks.
