Hi duchy, did you think it was worth the trip into Manhattan? We have a 5.5 hour stopover in Newark before our flight to Vegas. Last trip we just stayed in the airport for 6 hours, wandered round the shops and had lunch, but the time dragged. However I'm not sure if the time / cost of getting into Manhattan would be worth it?

    Honestly ? It probably wasn't !
We just did it cos 1 We could and 2 One of the five of us was a NYC virgin . We told her we were hopping on a train a couple of stops just because food was expensive at the airport . It was fun to come out onto the street and see her face when she looked up and saw ESB but it was more a silly holiday thing and fun photo op than actually worth it. :)

back from our trip and will post some detail (nothing stunning, mind!) later.

but did the smokers know that LAS has a smoking lounge/fishbowl with slots sort of area in the Terminal 1 D-gates area? I didn't...we've always flown out of D gates in the 30s and this time we were D8 so walked past the glassed in room...I was far too excited.

    Welcome home Ferf

I remember there used to be a smoking room at LAS years ago but don't remember seeing it recently but maybe like you I just swanned straight past it :)

We have left from D gate a few times and it has been there ever since I can remember. I think it is in front of the Cinnabon store. There is even a slot person on duty to look after things and make sure only players use the seats in front of the machines. Only in Vegas ;)
BTW welcome home. 2 weeks to go for us.
The common law of business balance prohibits paying a little and getting a lot. If you deal with the lowest bidder, it is well to add something for the risk you run, and if you do that you will have enough to pay for something better.

How funny, I guess when they closed the smoking room in T2, at the time that we always flew direct, I just assumed that they closed all of them and never even considered that others may still exist within the airport...we even had Cinnabon once a few years and I didn't notice it....so just assumed it had been added back recently. :)

so this is one reason I quite liked TI...last night there...there's not a photo of the first $200 ticket received about 10 mins before the first one below...check out the times. :) All were on Blazin' 7s $1 machines...I'd won $200 and $300 at Bellagio earlier in the trip and have historically had a weird connection with the machines.

And the last morning, went down for a cigarette, didn't really even want to play any slots, just really over it and ready to be home, stuck $20 in a quarter machine that I decided I didn't like and cashed out $17...went over to my Puppy Stampede machine (so cute!) I had really liked but someone was playing it...wandered around not really wanting to play anything and saw the Reel Em In Catch the Big One machines that I had tried a bit off and on all week without much success, decided to blow the $17 on a few spins at max ($3) and got the feature and won this - 4 of the progressives including the 2nd from the top at $426...top was $1009, but I didn't even think for a second I would get anything on the top row let alone the $426, so I was exceptionally pleased.

so next trip hubby has said I'm not allowed to leave the room until the last 12 hours or so, then I will be released to do my thing. :)

Yes and yes...we had stayed there before - but not officially, had 2 free nights and slept there one but didn't check out of our main hotel...this time we had 3 nights there and stayed there properly and I did quite like it...we moved from Bally's so the room was smaller, but not too small...the room was very comfortable, nice bed and bedding...and a small fridge in the room (pretty sure I read somewhere, maybe here, that they were adding them to their standard rooms)...I liked the casino - even before the wins we did OK there, unlike Bally's which was evil (all of the CET properties were this trip)...two Starbucks on the property - one at the front and one at the back, never a bad thing...and self parking really convenient to the rooms...meant it was easy the night before we left to take a couple of cases to the car and stick them in the boot, made check-out time much less of a hassle.

I liked the location, the Walgreens right across the street was very handy - out the door, across to the bridge, over the bridge and down and you're at Walgreens...and one night with few other options available tried Canter's Deli and had the best reuben sandwich I have had in my entire life, and I have had more than my fair share of reubens as it's one of my favorites...though never had one with pastrami...maybe that is where I have been going wrong. Not cheap, but at $15.75 including a drink and fries, it was well worth it I thought...and I bought 4 pairs of shoes at Fashion Show Mall...I have a lot of trouble finding shoes...so 4 pairs in one trip is something of a miracle. :)

So yes, we would stay again if we had a decent offer like this one.
